The restaurant owners, who are also wagyu wholesalers, import the whole cow from Japan and the meat is hand carved by the Japanese chefs here hence the ability to keep the prices lower than other yakiniku restaurants in Malaysia, while providing diners with the most authentic dining experience.
The Wagyu Restaurant is located in a bungalow building on Lorong Yap Kwan Seng, above their sister restaurant Suzuki Hanten. Currently, there are only six tables in the restaurant hence reservations are highly recommended.
Here at The Wagyu Restaurant, they are serving Nishiawa A4 and A5 Japanese Wagyu from the Tokushima Prefecture, with a marbling score of 5 to 7. To retain freshness, the meat is sliced to order.
You can find affordable lunch sets, with items such as hambagu and Wagyu steak and in the evenings, you can get yakiniku from the a la carte menu. The prices are very fair, eg. a small yakiniku BBQ plate, which comes with roughly 350g of meat is priced at RM188. There is also a retail section in the restaurant, with some of their popular cuts on display in the chiller.
Some of the cuts we tried here include the Beef Tongue PRIME with salt leeks (RM49), Wagyu kalbi (RM48) and Wagyu loin (rare parts PRIME) (RM78). The beef is grilled over charcoal embers, which has been heated to 450 to 500 degrees celcius. Everything was so good - absolutely tender, melt-in-the-mouth goodness.
Beef tongue with salt leeks - served with a wedge of lemon to remove any gaminess.
Soon to be introduced to the menu is the shabu-shabu style grilled wagyu, whereby thin slices of wagyu loin is flash cooked over the hot grill, and served rare with either ponzu sauce with radish or a raw egg, seasoned with salt, pepper and sesame oil. Loved this!
Look at the marbling on the beef!
