I still remember my first slice of mille crepe..my brother had kindly tapau (buy back) a piece for me all the way back from Nadeje in Melaka. It was lusciously creamy, so delicious that I immediately fell in love with it.
Fast forward one year, and we can now get mille crepe in certain cafes in KL too. Prior to this, Humble Beginnings mille crepe were available for order online and they would deliver to your home or you could pick-up in certain locations in KL. I had them on my radar for some time, since some of my friends have commented in the past that their mille crepes were good. So naturally, I was very happy when I found out that they were opening a cafe in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar.
French Vanilla Mille Crepe
The shop is located next to Subway on Jalan Telawi, it is quite small but sufficient space for a cafe. There were about 5-6 types of mille crepe available during our visit plus cheesecakes. Usually I would order the French vanilla flavour at other places, so I thought we should try it here too.
The mille crepe here consists of twenty layers of crepes with combination of fresh cream and vanilla custard. Everything is hand made and hand layered.
We have just had a heavy lunch, so I told Hubby we should share a slice, and if it's good, we can always order another. I had quite high expectations for the mille crepe here, but sadly I found the crepe layers too hard. It wasn't as smooth as we would have liked it to be, usually we could just use the fork and cut a slice effortlessly but struggled to do that here. :( However, the flavour was nice so we finished it anyway.
The guy in the shop also let us sample the mango cheese mille crepe and peanut butter chocolate. In hindsight, we should have tried out their samples first before ordering our slice of cake as the mango cheese one was really good and the texture is exactly how I envisaged the mille crepe to be. We did give our feedback to the guy in the shop, so hopefully the French Vanilla will be good the next time we visit.
I love the mango cheese mille crepe but wasn't crazy about the peanut butter chocolate

My boss just made some nice crepe for our breakfast this morninng, one with pork bacon, mushroom tomato and cheese, the other with honey banana and bacon. :D
ReplyDeleteHeheh when u gonna introduce your boss to me? I saw the photo on yr FB, looks good lah!
Deletecan deliver it to me? :)
DeleteHahaha...next time sample first before going all in...hehe :P
ReplyDeleteBut they shd have standard already since been selling the mille crepe for a while, right?
DeleteNeed to improve their QA lar...hehe =)
DeleteI guess I am not the only who think the texture were slightly hard. Maybe the cake was stored for a long time in the fridge...
ReplyDeleteI think so too. The vanilla one was also closest to the top, whereas the mango cheese was at the bottom. They shd get the problem fixed.
Deletemy fren told me but yet to try :( no chance liao..
ReplyDeleteI think they deliver to SG.
Deletereally? XD
DeleteCheck out their SG website here: http://sgshop.humblebeginnings.com.my/
DeleteAiyo we been meaning to try this since the time we knew they had an online store...now they have real shop and we still haven't tried! lol..must correct this issue soon!
ReplyDeleteThey've not been open too long, so it's forgiveable. Also give them time to fix any glitches they have.
DeleteI'm surprised! Cause everytime I order from them, the texture was so far all good! Royal Milktea was everyone's fav~
ReplyDeleteI think its the chiller problem. Hope they fix it,cos I wanna go back for more.
DeleteYen,I actually wanted to order this when we had our holidays in Penang ad they also have a branch there but then, we had to cut short our stay becoz my girl had diarrhoea so we didn't get the chance to try.I would have thought that peanut butter Mille crepe is good but looks like mango flavour is the black horse
ReplyDeleteOK hope by the time u come to KL this time, they have improved their mille crepe. Then u can try ;)
DeleteThis guy was with Nadeje in Malacca - quarrelled with the boss or something and came out to open his own - I think in Penang and Singapore at first - made-to-order only. Dunno where the guy is based himself - if he's not there, then these would be made by his employees...
ReplyDeleteCome and try the ones in Sibu - 30 layers (these, 20 only, I read somewhere). Vanilla: Rm6.60, rum & raisin: RM7.80 and double chocolate: RM8.80...all cheaper and I would say, bigger and nicer too!
Hehehehe I always see the mille crepe on your blog, they do look good!
DeleteMaking this really looks like hard work, even worse than kek lapis!! Think I will just pay to eat this in a restaurant ha ha
ReplyDeleteI read the instructions somewhere before, these ones are made on the pan.... shd be easier than kek lapis wor... so I think for u shd be "easy peasy".
DeleteMango + Cheese? YUM!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was indeed a good flavour.
DeleteLooks like a cute little shop. I like the decorations on the ceiling.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty little cafe. If they get it right, lots of customers will flock there.
Deletedelightful. So which one is better? Nadeje or this
ReplyDeleteBased on this experience, I would say Nadeje.
Deletevery nice mille crepe..
ReplyDeletemy fav flavor is rum & raisin that I tried at Nadeje...
Hope I got chance to go Melaka soon and try their mille crepe again.
DeleteI definitely love to try this yummy crepe when I go to KL.
ReplyDeleteHope they would improve by then
Deletei have a theory! i think the cakes that have been in the chiller for a few hours are hardened, while the ones that are fresh in the chiller are super-soft. so maybe the cakes need to be brought home and allowed to soften =)
ReplyDeleteOr maybe not many customers at the start, so the cakes have been sitting there for quite some time. Sigh, if it's too hard, they shd ask the customer to wait a while before consuming.
DeleteI hope two fix the problem!!!
ReplyDeleteI Have quite high expectation from them
Some I tried some of tHeir flavours in a event last time
All are good especially peanut butter, Oreo, choc and vanilla
Love it
HoPe they dun disappointed me on my comig visit

ReplyDeleteI wonder if they did not thaw it enough before serving or had it been sitting in the fridge a wee too long?
ReplyDeleteYeah could be either of the reasons. I did take photos for a bit, so it shouldnt be an excuse to serve customers a hard slice of cake.
