Take- away half a duck for RM15 or RM28.80 for a whole duck! (Indicated dine-in price is RM55 per duck) Sounds too good to be true?
Makes you wonder if the duck would taste any good?
Since the duck is half price, one would automatically assume that there might be something wrong with it (overnight duck may be one of the reasons that pop into our head), if not why would it be so cheap? Another perception would be that the taste would be inferior since it is sold in an air-conditioned restaurant chain in a shopping mall and not in a hawker stall.
Anyway, last week we walked past C-Jade Express again, and this time I said "Why don't we just try the duck rather than second guessing whether it is any good? Besides it's only RM15, if it's crap we'll just feed it to the dogs. And if it's good, then it's money well spent."
There were a few other customers getting the take-away duck, so it boosted our confidence a little.
The duck, although not the best I've had, was actually pretty decent. We had intended to warm it before eating when we got home, but it wasn't too bad eaten cold. It is safe to say that it has not been kept overnight (you can tell by eating it).
The duck was tender with a golden crispy skin, and the fragrant five chinese spice used to marinate the duck was well infused into the meat. Dunked in the plum sauce provided, we finished half the duck within minutes.
Verdict : Great value for money - one could expect to pay RM55 for a whole duck at a hawker stall. I wouldn't hesitate buying this again.
