NASOM was founded in 1987 to provide a range of support services to assist people living with autism, especially children and their immediate family members. As a non-profit organisation, NASOM depends on generous donors to help them support autism education, increase awareness of the condition, advocate for people living with autism, conduct research to improve lives, and most importantly, enable NASOM to assist the immediate families members of children with autism.
Starting from 1 December 2021, there are two ways to fulfil a child’s wish, either physically by picking a wish from the tree and approaching the festive desk at the hotel’s lobby or online via The Mandarin Oriental Shop Kuala Lumpur.
The Christmas Tree of Hope will be proudly displayed at the hotel lobby. Hanging on the tree, patrons of the hotel will find handwritten cards with names and wishes of the children from NASOM. Generous donors may pick a name from the tree and pass the card and their donations on to the staff that will be attending all donations from 11am to 8pm daily. Every donation that is received will go towards fulfilling the wishes of every child under NASOM’s care.
For donors who cannot be physically present to pick out a card, the hotel has also published wishes from the children of NASOM at The Mandarin Oriental Shop Kuala Lumpur. Simply pick out a wish that you would like to fulfill and pay through the website. There is also an option to purchase an RM50 donation from the site which also goes to granting wishes.
Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur has prepared a list of over 100 toys that the children from NASOM may choose from that are sure to put a smile on their faces. Once every wish has been fulfilled, all additional donations collected will go towards the purchase of necessities for the centre. From masks to food items, stationeries, hygiene items and more, the hotel is committed to making sure the children have even more to look forward to after the holiday season.
The Christmas Tree of Hope was launched in 2020 and gathered a great deal of support. Last year, the hotel managed to fulfil all 303 wishes from various organisations, donated additional necessities like food and hygiene items amidst the pandemic the following months, and even presented a cheque of RM4,284.48 to NASOM in conjunction with World Autism Day.
In 2021, the hotel is hopeful to exceed the giving received in 2020 and is looking forward to presenting even more to the children of NASOM after the holidays. As part of giving back to society, Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur looks to bring holiday cheer to the children of NASOM and give them something to look forward to in 2022.
