Throwback to our Scotland trip last year.... realised that I have not blogged about many of our dining and travel adventures. One of our favorite places in Aberdeenshire is Stonehaven. We made countless trips there as our kids love spending time at Stonehaven Beach and Harbour, as well as Dunnottar Castle.
Since we had an excellent meal at Tolbooth Seafood Restaurant the previous year, we went back again during this trip.
We were seated by the large picture window... and this is our view.. stunning! :)
Bright and cheery
Complimentary bread to start
Hubby picked one of the specials for his starters, Scottish squat lobsters (£8.95). Although they required a little more effort to extract the meat, it was well worth it, as the meat was fresh and sweet.
I went for the Stonehaven Crab Cocktail (£8.50) which is served in an elegant cocktail glass. Crab mayonnaise, tomato and basil concasse, and truffled pea puree make up this delicious starter.
For mains, I immediately zeroed in on the scallop dish - pan seared local scallops (£22.50) with cauliflower puree, samphire, black pudding bon bons, pink grapefruit and rocket dressing. This was really good - the scallops were cooked to absolute perfection and I liked the bon bons as well, crisp and flavorful.
Hubby had the curry dusted monkfish (£20.50), served with local asparagus, pea and saffron risotto, citrus oil, and sakura cress. Another beautifully done dish.
Stonehaven town from the car park
Tolbooth Seafood Restaurant is located above the Tolbooth Museum. We decided to wander around the museum since entry is free. Outside the museum, you will find these vintage hand-cranked clothes dryer (mangle).
Some vintage stuff inside... iron (my Grandma has one of those), copper pots etc.
Earlier that morning, we visited Dunnottar Castle, unfortunately weather was not very kind to us.... it was rainy and windy!
