Birthday #1: Hanare Japanese Restaurant KL's Sunday Buffet Brunch

And so the celebration begins..

Every year during my birthday, we will have a week long celebration of good food. We started off the celebration with one of our favorite cuisines - Japanese. Hanare recently brought back their Sunday Buffet Brunch which I love, so this is where Hubby took me for my first birthday treat of the year.

Love the fresh sashimi here

Hanare Japanese Restaurant located in Intermark Mall serves fine Japanese cuisine. We were here 1 1/2 years ago when they first introduced the Sunday brunch buffet, and really enjoyed it. Recently, they brought this buffet back. Am happy to report that the food quality is still as good as before.

The Sunday Buffet Brunch is priced at RM148++ with free flow of green tea and soft drinks.  You can also choose to have free flow sake and draft beer (usually priced at RM198++) but from now until end Dec, you can get it for the same price at RM148++ too.

Nice chilled sake

The buffet spread here is still small, but that's okay since we would prefer it to be of high quality. The only difference between the spread this time and the last is that chutoro servings are limited. Each person is given a token when they arrive, and can only redeem one plate of chutoro per person (3 slices). Of course I was a little sad as I really love chutoro, but at least the other sashimi selections were excellent too.

We started off our meal with the chutoro - thick slices of fresh sashimi, melt-in-the-mouth kind. Then, followed by plate after plate of luscious sashimi - salmon, tuna, kanpachi, amaebi and katsuo tataki. I loved them all, but most of all, I liked the salmon and kanpachi, which we had many servings of. The raw freshly shucked oysters were fresh and briny too. We were best friends with the sushi chef by the end of the meal. LOL!

Usually we avoid maki and sushi at buffets (cos rice fills us up faster), but the maki here was good. Loved the popping ebikko that coats the rice. :)

As usual, there is a selection of cold starters - garden salad, edamame, potato salad, and other seasonal starters such as seaweed, burdock root and shishamo. There is also zaru soba and udon. Too bad there wasn't any ikura with the garden salad this time.

Ebi tempura - good

Other than the sashimi counter, my next favorite section is the teppanyaki. The wagyu beef was very good, cooked to our liking (medium rare) - love the buttery texture. YUM. I had so many plates of this. We had one helping of hotate (scallops) and many of the cheesy prawn teppanyaki. There's only one word to describe the prawns... FABULOUS! This was one of the best things we ate from this buffet.

Desserts were ordinary. There was cheesecake, green tea pudding, vanilla ice cream and a selection of fresh fruits.

Verdict: If you're looking for a good quality Japanese buffet, this is it. Small selection but very fresh sashimi and great teppanyaki counter.

    1. Well, RM148++ may sound pricey but to be honest, it's worth going for since the quality of sashimi is really good. As you know Japanese food in general is pretty expensive.

    1. Sashimi in KL is really expensive right? So I feel this buffet brunch is really good value for money.

  12. How does it compare to tatsu? RM148++ with unlimited sake wow! That's definitely a great deal. Too bad my other half will not appreciate this meal at all as a seafood hater. :P need to find someone to go with me!

    1. Tatsu has more variety, and I did enjoy their salmon sashimi immensely. If I was bringing my kids, then I would choose Tatsu as they have sashimi and udon, and other more exciting desserts, but if I wanna indulge in sashimi and Wagyu teppanyaki, then Hanare.
