Delicious bowl of beef noodles
Lai Foong in Taman Taynton offers soup beef noodles which are similar to the ones we like. This shop is a branch of the famous Lai Foong coffee shop in Jalan Tun HS Lee, and is operated by one of the brothers, Edward Tan.
Air-conditioned restaurant which enables us to dine in comfort. Restaurant can get very busy on weekends.
Fishies
The soup here is based on an authentic 80 year old Hainanese recipe passed down by his late grandfather, Chou Jou. Coincidentally, the origins of the Seremban beef noodles can also be traced back to Hainan, which explains the similarity in taste. The soup is clear but flavoursome and I especially like the taste of the preserved salted vegetable (kiam chai). There is a choice of 4 noodles, namely lai fun (rat tail noodles), kuay teow, mee or mee hoon. After choosing the noodles, you can then choose the ingredients you would like in your soup... from beef ball, lean meat, tripe, stomach, tendon, leaf tripe, intestine, tongue and even BULL'S PENIS! That is one thing I definitely won't be eating anytime soon.
My favourite combo here is lai fun with a mixture of beef balls, tripe, leaf tripe, and lean meat. (Option C - Mix & Beef Ball) (RM5.00) The soup is definitely addictive as I want to lick my bowl clean everytime. The meat balls here are bouncy and delicious.
Hor fun with tripe (RM5.00)
Hor fun with tendon (RM5.00)
We have also tried the dry version (RM5.20) here, however, we found it to be average. The noodles are tossed in dark soy sauce and topped with some preserved salted vegetable versus the "special gravy" we are accustomed to in the Seremban version.
Dry lai fun with beef balls
A big fan of the Lai Foong beef balls in our family... nom nom noms
Lai Foong is a great place for us to satisfy our beef noodles craving. I would recommend the soup version over the dry version here.
Opening times: Daily from 8.00am to 4.00pm. Closed on Tuesdays unless it falls on a public holiday.
Service: Good.
The dry beef noodle that I had at Seremban was different with KL, thicker gravy was used which I not very fond to :(
ReplyDeleteChoi Yen: I guess everyone has their own preference huh. I grew up with the thick gravy so it's nice for me. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteBeefy and noodley = yummery! :P
ReplyDeleteheard a lot about this shop. Food looks good. Portion looks a bit small
ReplyDeleteooh, my mom's side is hainanese, but i don't think i've tried this beef noodle recipe before. i'm originally from malacca, so maybe the recipe was only circulating in seremban, hehe...
ReplyDeleteLFB: Where do you get your beef noodle fix?
ReplyDeleteSmall Kucing: The portions actually quite big, definitely more than enough for me.
ReplyDeleteSean: Ohh what type of beef noodles do you usually eat? Like the Soong Kee one in Hutong?
ReplyDeleteI rarely rarely rarely manage to have beef noodles, but yeah, I can remember the hutong one, and also some beef ball noodles at Ngau Kee at tengkat tong shin. Guess I just am not really a fan of soupy Chinese noodles (though they'd probably be healthier than greasy, creamy pastas, heh)
ReplyDeleteLooks good but beef is a no no for us.
ReplyDeleteyummeh! I'm a hainanese but I don't know how to cook well! lol
ReplyDeleteyums, i absolutely adore beef noodles, now if only it's not in cheras... :)
ReplyDeleteNava: Ah guess you have to give this a miss.
ReplyDeleteeiling: Hehe just eat out! So much food in KL.
ReplyDeleteAugustDiners: There is another famous one called Uncle Cheng's in SS2, have yet to try it though. Is that closer to you?
ReplyDeletenice one, will go have a try too
ReplyDeleteAlan: Thanks for visiting my blog and hope you enjoy the noodles. :)

ReplyDeleteCnD's Daddy: The Seremban branch we frequent is not the one mentioned in The Star.
ReplyDeletebabe_kl: Where do you usually go for your beef noodles? Hope this is to your liking :)
