I'll be back..
Those were my words to Chef Steve Allen after I had a splendid first meal at DISH. Last week, just before our Singapore trip, we returned to DISH, this time to try their set lunch offerings.
If you've followed my blog for a while, you will know that I love going out for lunch. Sage is one of my favorite lunch spots (still is!) but I may have just found another great lunch spot in DISH!
Carpaccio of beef, quail eggs, French beans and Parmesan
We like our table in the corner
DISH offers a 2-course set lunch for RM65++ and 3-courses for RM75++ which comes with two amuse bouche and coffee/tea, really great value for money. Plus parking is so easy here, which is a plus point for me. There are 3 options for both the starters and main courses and 2 options for dessert. The set lunch is available everyday INCLUDING weekends, and is changed every 2 weeks, so all the more reason to revisit soon!
Complimentary bread with garlic herb butter and balsamic-olive dip
I simply adore these eggplant fritters, served warm before your meal. I always make Hubby give me an extra one.. ;P
Watermelon with feta cheese and balsamic-chocolate reduction
I have a soft spot for carpaccio, just like scallops, if I see it on the menu, I have to order it. The carpaccio of beef came beautifully presented, a burst of colours thanks to the addition of beautifully runny crispy quail's eggs, croutons, French beans and Parmesan. I enjoyed the clean flavours of this dish with added texture from the other components.
So pretty
It looks good in every angle and tastes so delicious too
Hubby had the curried carrot soup with crispy squid. This unassuming dish was bursting with flavours, curry + carrot combination is definitely a winner. Personally I preferred to eat them separate but Hubby enjoyed pouring the crispy squid into the soup and eating them together.

Another starter on the menu was the chargrilled mussels with apple and garlic broth with toasted ciabatta. Chef Steve made this for us to try and we loved it! The broth especially was very delicious, even after we finished the mussels we slurped up all the broth. Hubby who usually avoids mussels gave this a BIG thumbs up!
Plump, juicy mussels cooked in garlic-apple broth.. perfection!
For mains, there was an option of pan fried fillet of salmon, braised lamb shank or chargrilled grass fed striploin. In the past, I would have jumped at sight of braised lamb shank but I was craving for a steak on this particular day so we ordered two striploins, done medium rare.
The striploin were a little on the thin side, so we were worried that it would be overcooked. Fortunately, it was still pink inside and the meat was really juicy and tender. Out of the two sides, we preferred the triple cooked chips over the mac n cheese simply cos we felt that chips went slightly better with the steak. Although I wouldn't mind eating the mac n cheese on its own since it was really yummy.
Chargrilled grass fed striploin, lobster butter with triple cooked chips or mac n cheese with a side salad
Triple cooked chips - crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, just the way we like our potatoes!

Someone is happy with her steak... ;)
Chef Steve also gave us a small taster of his tomato risotto with a black olive tapenade and zucchini (RM34/50 for starter/mains portion). I loved it! The risotto was cooked to a perfect al dente and flavoursome.
And Chef Steve brings out another one of his creation for us to try (not on the a la carte or set lunch menu).. a gorgeous shortbread with grilled strawberries, strawberry granita and mascarpone ice cream. The shortbread reminds Hubby of his homeland, Scotland.. :) I really enjoyed the grilled strawberries, next time I'm gonna try grilling them at home too! He tells us that he was experimenting with mangosteens in the last few days, hopefully we will see a mangosteen dessert on the menu soon!
For dessert, I chose the poached green guava soup, white chocolate and chilli ice cream as the chilli part really intrigued me! Chef Steve tells me they make their own ice cream, I could detect just a hint of chilli in the ice cream but enough to get your tastebuds tingling. The green guava soup was a combination of sweet and slightly bitter flavours and paired with the sweet-spicy ice cream was a lovely end to the meal for me.
The almond financier may not look like much, but it was really delicious. Between the two desserts, I preferred this.. the financier was really moist and fluffy and paired perfectly with the roasted pineapple and mascarpone ice cream. Simply delightful.

You can choose either coffee or tea (comes with the set lunch) to end your meal. Hubby commented that the coffee here is good.
Double espresso
This set lunch is available til end of this week before Chef Steve whips up a brand new set lunch menu (I'm so going back!). Btw, other than the set lunch and a la carte menu, Chef Steve has created a tasting menu "Taste of Dish" of five of his best dishes for RM135++ - a really great deal if you ask me! They are also hosting a degustation dinner this weekend (12 May) for RM99++ where you will get to try tasting portions of 12 of his dishes and 16 wines (but this is a standing dinner).

ReplyDeleteYes, see you tomorrow ;)
Deleteooo, that takes real skill, rite, to be able to make a beautiful preparation out of a thin piece of steak! i think many other places would have ruined that beef. and yay, it looks like quail eggs are gonna be firmly on the menu here as long as chef steve is around! :D
ReplyDeleteYes definitely, not easy to cook a thin piece of steak. And I do love the crispy quail's eggs... love that they still managed to keep it runny inside.
DeleteWhen was the last time you had dinner here? The menu was recently changed, so maybe you will change your perception on the food.
ReplyDeleteLooks great but it sure doesn't come cheap. I'd opt for something more affordable. :(
ReplyDeleteFor the quality of food they serve, it's quite reasonably priced.
