If you're a fan of Korean fried chicken, Chicken Plus is a good place to satisfy your cravings. Located on the lower ground floor of EkoCheras Mall, this casual Korean restaurant specialises in Korean fried chicken (choose from boneless, wings or drumsticks) in 11 different flavours as well as tteokbboki (rice cakes), ramen and bingsu.
For weekday lunch, Chicken Plus offers a lunch promotion set at RM23.90 for 2 pax. The set comes with 10 pieces of boneless chicken (choose either creamy onion chicken, hot shocking chicken or yang nyeum chicken), two bowls of steamed rice, two green tea, as well as side dishes (kimchi, radish kimchi and coleslaw).
We went for the yang nyeum chicken, which is slightly sweet and spicy. I kind of like the convenience of boneless chicken as we do not have to get our hands dirty when eating. The chicken itself was tender yet crispy and was topped with some almond flakes.
Lunch Promotion Set is available Mon-Fri from 11am to 4pm.
Opening times: 10am-10pm daily.
Price: Total bill RM27.70 for 2 pax.
Location: Chicken Plus, Lot LG 60,61,62, Lower Ground Floor, Eko Cheras Mall, No. 693 Batu 5, Jalan Cheras, 56000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Parking RM1 on weekday)

Quan's Kitchen, Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown
Quan's Kitchen is the all-day dining restaurant in the newly opened Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown. Guests can savour local specialties while enjoying breathtaking views of the KL city skyline. There are not many places in KL where you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the world famous Petronas Twin Towers, KL Towers, PNB118 (upcoming tallest building in Malaysia) and Exchange 106, all in one frame.
Boasting an open theatrical kitchen, Quan's Kitchen serves an a la carte menu for both lunch and dinner, paying homage to the culinary institutions surrounding Chinatown KL such as Jalan Sultan (koh loh noodle, loh she fun), Jalan Petaling (claypot porridge, chicken rice) and Jalan Tanglin (nasi lemak kampung). Other than local favourites, Quan's Kitchen also offers a selection of International mains such as Salmon, Dorper lamb rack, Pasta, and Crispy eggplant and cheese sandwich.
I went for one of their signature dishes, the Kon Loh Noodle (RM35) - Quan's Kitchen version of wantan mee, served with dry rubbed crispy duck confit, kai lan, duck crackling and a side of fishball soup. Very delicious - I particularly enjoyed the great texture of the noodles, tender duck confit and the ultra-crispy and sinful duck crackling.
Quan's Kitchen also offers a variety of refreshing mocktails, also inspired by the locality such as Rojak, Sri Maha Temple and Apam Balik. Our favourites are the Air Mata Kucing (dried longan, luo han guo tea, lemon) and Pasar Karat (passionfruit puree, mango juice, lemon juice, soda).
Hubby had the chef recommended Sticky dried chili chicken (RM25), with bell peppers and cashew nuts and served with jasmine rice and crackers in a claypot.
For the kids, we ordered two dishes for them to share from the International Mains - the DCWH's grain fed striploin (220g - RM58) and Supreme burger (RM45). The striploin, we were told, is named after the hotel owner, Dato' Choy, and is one of his favourite dishes here at Quan's Kitchen. Expertly grilled to medium rare perfection, the steak had a lovely smoky finish. It was served with roasted garlic potatoes, asparagus and chasseur sauce.
The Supreme Burger was another excellent choice, featuring a juicy patty made with Black Angus beef, sandwiched between caramelised onions, gherkin, tomato, cheese and sesame bun halves.
For dessert, choose from Old-fashioned chocolate cake (RM20), Sago pudding with palm sugar and kuih bahulu (RM20), Cendol (RM18) or Waffle Sundae with your choice of ice cream (we went for teh tarik) (RM18).
Operating hours: Lunch 12pm - 2.30pm; Dinner 6.30pm - 11pm
Location: Quan's Kitchen, Level 8, Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown, No 2, Jalan Balai Polis, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.(Parking rate RM3 for 45 mins)

As for us, we started off Christmas morning with these adorable Rudolph pancakes, made by Hubby. For the pancake batter, he used this trusted recipe that we've been using for years now - fluffy pancakes guaranteed everytime!
How to Make Rudolph Pancakes
Makes 6
What you need:
Pancake batter (recipe here)
Halved cherry tomato, or strawberry for red nose
Edible candy eyes
Nutella for antlers
Instructions:
Start off by making a larger round pancake base for the face, around 10cm in diameter, and then make a smaller one (around 3cm in diameter) for the nose. This was an improptu Christmas breakfast, so we used halved cherry tomatoes for Rudolph's nose, however you may also use strawberries if you have them. For the eyes, we used edible candy eyes (available from baking supply shops) and the antlers are hand-drawn directly onto the plate using Nutella. Serve with a dusting of icing sugar, salted butter and maple syrup.

Poh's Tau Fu Fah, Petaling Street, KL
BabySumoKids and I are huge fans of tau fu fah. Tau fu fah is a type of soybean dessert / pudding. A friend recommended a shop in Petaling Street called Poh's Tau Fu Fah, so we headed there the next time we were in Chinatown KL.
When we arrived, they were closing up but they stayed open to serve us since our kids voiced their keenness to try the dessert here. As they have run out of most of the toppings, the kids went for the plain original tau fu fah (RM5) while Hubby and I shared the cendol tau fu fah (RM8.90).
The owner explains that the tau fu fah here is made with no hardening agent so it is served cold. The tau fu fah here has a lovely, refreshing jelly-like texture. Hubby doesn't usually eat tau fu fah but he likes the cold version here very much. The cendol tau fu fah comes with grass jelly, cendol strands, kidney bean and corn... very nice! We plan to return here again to try their tau fu fah series with toppings such as sweet potato and taro balls.
The owners, Simon and Jasmine are originally from Melaka so you will also find Nyonya cuisine/ food here such as Nyonya chicken rendang, chicken pongteh, asam pedas fish and more!
Opening times: Mon- Fri 9.30am - 8pm; Sat & Sun 9.30am - 7pm.
Price: Total bill RM18.90.
Location: Poh's Tau Fu Fah Restaurant, No 124 Petaling Street, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Tel: 012-796 2977 (Simon)
Nearest MRT: Pasar Seni (Exit A- 200m).

Restoran Good Taste Rice & Noodle House, Cheras, KL
A friend of my dad's told him about this restaurant, which is purportedly famous for their wantan mee. So, Hubby and I visited one morning to try them out.
Upon arrival, I asked what they served here and was told that they do roasted meats, which you can have with wantan noodles and rice, or beef noodles.
We both ordered the wantan mee with char siew and requested for "pun fei sau" (half lean half fat) meat. The noodles had a good texture and was pretty tasty, but during our visit, the char siu was just okay for me, as the layers of fat didn't quite melt in the mouth (probably required a little more roasting time). Overall, still a decent bowl of wantan mee.
You may also check out this shop in Cheras for wantan mee.
Opening times: 9am - 4pm. Closed on Thursdays.
Price: RM13.80, including 1 drink.
Location: Restoran Good Taste Rice & Noodle House, 17-31, Jalan 13/144a, Taman Bukit Cheras, 56000 Kuala Lumpur. (Free street parking available)

Review: Swiss-Garden Hotel Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur
Need a year-end staycation? Strategically situated in the heart of the city centre, Swiss-Garden Hotel Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur is ideal for both guests wanting a quiet break or an adventure-filled holiday exploring the streets of KL. Furthermore, the hotel has recently undergone a major refurbishment, sporting a modern, sleek look at the hotel lobby, restaurants and rooms.
The hotel boasts a variety of accommodation, from 28 sq m Deluxe Rooms to spacious 50 sq m Family Rooms. The Family Room was perfect for our family of four, as it came with a king sized bed and two single beds, all in one room! The room is subtly partitioned, providing both parents and kids with their own area.
The room is well-appointed in natural wood tones, and comes with a LCD flat screen TV, lounge chair, working desk, coffee/tea making facilities, mini fridge, and a lovely, spacious marble bathroom with separate shower / toilet. There are plenty of kids and movie channels, perfect for staying in for a long movie marathon if you like.
The saltwater pool is located on level 3 of the hotel, along with a shallower pool at the side for younger kids. There is also a gym on the same level.
Breakfast is served at the hotel's all day dining restaurant, The Garden Terrace on Level 1. The selection was pretty good, ranging from noodles, nasi lemak, porridge, pastries, cereal and more. Other than breakfast, the hotel also serves an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, with dishes such as salads, soups, sandwiches, burger, pasta, Western and Asian mains and dessert. Click here for our detailed review of the restaurant.
Chinatown KL, also known as Petaling Street is a 5-min drive away from Swiss-Garden Hotel Bukit Bintang. Foodies can visit the famous Jalan Alor for KL's biggest collection of roadside restaurants and street food vendors in the evening. There are also lots of shopping and entertainment outlets in the vicinity.
Room rates start from RM225 per night.
Check-in time 3pm, check-out time 12pm.

Coré, Tropicana Avenue: Korean Cuisine
Coré is a modern Korean restaurant located in Tropicana Avenue. The restaurant has a chic, relaxed vibe, thanks to the understated, minimalist interior.
Taking centrestage on the menu is jijimi, which is essentially Korean pancake with different fillings. Jijimi is made by pan-frying a mixture of seafood, meat and vegetables in oil with a thick batter made from flour and eggs.
Here at Coré, you will find jijimi such as haemul pajeon (spring onion and seafood), kimchi jijimi (kimchi, spring onion, seafood), dongtae jijimi (pollock fish), saewoo jijimi (prawn), dubu jijimi (organic tofu), gogi wanja jijimi (pork, chive, carrot, onion), phogo gogi wanja (shitake mushroom, pork) and nockdu jijimi (mung bean, beansprout, pork). We recommend the Jijimi Modum (RM88 for large, RM48 for small), a platter featuring an assortment of jijimi, for a taste of all the different jijimi on offer. According to Coré's Korean owner, Ben, jijimi is eaten during the festive season and the perfect accompaniment to jijimi is a cold glass of makgeolli. Geonbae 건배!
On the menu, you will also find salads and grilled meats as well as Korean rice bowls, noodles and stews.
If you love Korean fried chicken, the chances are you'll probably love the Maewoon pork galbi (RM45) too! The pork ribs is marinated with a Korean spicy marinade, then braised until tender, and finally shallow fried before serving with crispy rice cake (tteokbokki).
We're big fans of Korean BBQ (especially grilled pork!), so Baby D absolutely loved the Gang Daenjang samyup ssam (RM38) here at Coré. To enjoy, simply place the grilled crispy pork belly with bean paste (doenjang), crispy garlic, chilli and rice on the lettuce leaf. So yummy!
We also tried two of the rice bowls, the Bulgogi dupbab (RM28) and Jangjorim butter dupbab (RM28). For the bulgogi dupbab, the rice is topped with beef bulgogi, thinly sliced sauteed marinated sirloin beef as well as julienned carrots and fresh lettuce. The Jangjorim butter dupbab was something new to us - rice is topped with scrambled egg, French butter and braised beef in soy sauce. The rice bowls come with a serving of hot soup.
Location: Coré, P-G-10 Tropicana Avenue, 12 Persiaran Tropicana, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. (Parking RM1 for first 3 hours).
Tel: 03-7494 3801
