Famous Steam Fish Head @ Big Tree Lin Kee, Taman Orkid Desa, Cheras KL

Big Tree Lin Kee is famous for its steam fish head. Previously, the restaurant was located in Taman Connaught. Today, they opened up a new branch in Taman Orkid Desa (just 1 minute away from old shop), taking up 2 shop lots- quite spacious, ample parking and clean.

The fish head used here is from soong yee (carp) and can be cooked in various self-made sauces, namely with soy sauce (cheng ching), sweet spicy sauce (cheong ching), ginger sauce (keong yong),  bean paste, tom yam and garlic steam. They also have assam stingray and wan yee (another type of carp) in few cooking styles.

We ordered the cheong ching fish head. The portion was big and the fish was fresh and meaty, and the sauce was good. I found the taste pretty comparable to a famous restaurant in Seremban serving this, TC Keong. Please note though that soong yee has quite a lot of bones.

Other than the fish head, we also tried several other homestyle dishes. I enjoyed the Deep Fried Seafood Special Tofu, served with a chilli/mayo sauce. The tofu has been mixed with fish paste so it has quite a unique taste. The marmite pork was also good, the pork meat was tender and flavoursome.

  5. Love fish head but soong yee sometimes has that "muddy" taste... so I usually for a spicy sauce to mask that!

    1. Yes, we were served almost half a fish. Im not sure about the pricing, cos the menu doesnt have price and they didn't give us an itemised bill at the end. But overall, RM55 for the meal is reasonable.
