CNY 2020: Five Sen5es, The Westin Kuala Lumpur

Welcome the Year of the Rat with family and friends at Five Sen5es, The Westin Kuala Lumpur's Chinese restaurant. From 6 January until 16 February 2020, Five Sen5es will be presenting 3 exquisite set menus, a selection of fresh Yee Sang and festive a la carte items specially curated by Chinese Chef Ron Lean and his team. The menu will showcase authentic Chinese cuisine, engaging your five senses - sight, taste, scent, touch and sound.

The set menus are priced at RM1,988 (Happiness), RM2,188 (Blessings) and RM2,388 (Abundance) per table of 10 persons respectively. Each set menu comes with a bottle of selected complimentary House red or white wine.

A Chinese New Year dinner will not be complete without the tossing of Yee Sang. Yee Sang is symbolic of good luck, prosperity, health and all things auspicious. Guests can choose from Smoked Salmon, abalone slice or Salmon Yee Sang, all made with healthy ingredients and with no preservatives, in line with Westin's Eat Well program. The Yee Sang can also be taken away for celebrations in the comfort of your homes with loved ones, with prices starting from RM198 nett per standard serving.

We tossed to prosperity with the Salmon Yee Sang, presented in a large, auspicious red plate with double koi fish which symbolises good luck, abundance and perseverance. Here's to a prosperous 2020! :)

Next, we had the Braised crab meat soup with fish lips and dried scallop - a thick, comforting soup, brimming with delicious ingredients. Yummy!

A whole chicken is usually served during Chinese New Year as it symbolises prosperity and togetherness of the family. The Roasted chicken with crispy salt pepper was moist and juicy, with the popped rice lending an extra texture to the dish.

On top of representing abundance for the new year, the Steamed Dragon Grouper with Fungus and Enoki Mushroom was a real treat with its delicious, meaty texture and gelatinous skin.

Prawns are a must-have during Chinese New Year meals as it symbolises laughter and happiness. Laugh your way into the Year of the Metal Rat with the Stir fried prawn with butter milk sauce.

The Braised fish maw, mushroom and bean curd with money bag is full of auspicious ingredients, with fish maw representing abundance, mushroom for longevity, bean curd for blessings for your home and money bag for wealth. We also had the Traditional lotus leaf rice with diced chicken, topped with shredded golden omelette and dried scallop.

For dessert, we were served a refreshing Chilled peach gum soup with red date and longan as well as a dessert platter featuring Deep fried Chinese New Year cake (nian gao) and an adorable rat pineapple tart, symbolic of Lunar New Year 2020.

There will be an acrobatic Lion Dance performance at the hotel's Porte Cochere and Lobby on 31 January 2020 at 11am.
