CNY 2019: Lai Ching Yuen, Grand Millennium KL

Ring in the Year of the Pig with sumptuous delicacies and specialty dishes at the award-winning Cantonese restaurant, Lai Ching Yuen at Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur. Led by Executive Chinese Chef Terence Foong, the restaurant will be showcasing a series of Chinese New Year specialties and set menus.

There will be three set menus available, from now until 19 February 2019, priced at RM188 nett per person for a minimum of four persons and range from RM 1,888 nett, RM 2,888 nett and RM 3,888 nett per table of ten for a 9-course set meal. Please scroll down to the bottom for the full menus.

Raise your chopsticks and toss to to greater heights with a selection of Yee Sang, with toppings such as fresh Norwegian salmon, jelly fish, crispy fish skin, abalone, soft-shell crab, barbecued pork or vegetarian. During our review, we sampled the "Peace Season" set, which comes with the Yee Sang with Abalone. The yee sang here is most apt for the Year of the Pig, with cute piggy buns, as well as crispy pork crackling.. loved it! The fruity yee sang sauce is also worth a mention, made from all natural ingredients such as peach, apricot, strawberry and mandarin orange.

The highlight of this set is the Hong Kong style roasted "pi pa" duck. This is only available during the festive period. To create the crispy skin, the duck is hung for 36 hours until dry and then marinated with honey, sugar, vinegar and rice wine. With its crispy, thin skin and juicy, flavorful meat, this was a truly enjoyable dish.

This set also comes with Braised supreme shark's fin soup, Crispy grouper bone in salt and pepper as well as grouper fillets with spring onion and ginger, Baked slipper lobster with superior broth and Braised dried oyster with stuffed sea cucumber, mushroom and garden greens.

Diners can also indulge in Chinese Wax Meat Rice in Claypot, a specialty for the Lunar New Year. Salted duck meat, duck liver and Chinese sausage are steamed with rice in claypot, and then a special sauce is poured over before enjoying.

For dessert, a Sweet Fancy Duet featuring traditional nian gao, sandwiched between yam and potato along with pineapple tarts are served with a Double boiled longan with sea coconut and white fungus.

In addition to the above, Dim Sum Master Chef Thye Yoon Kong and his team have also come up with a special festive dim sum menu comprising heart-warming steamed fish maw with prawn paste, pan-fried vegetables soft bun with fatt choy, pickled cabbage and chicken spring roll, steamed seafood dumpling and crispy onion puffs with chicken ham and more. Available till 19 February 2019 for lunch and dinner, starting from RM 28 nett onwards per dish. Highly recommended - the dim sum dishes were well-made and absolutely delicious.
