Restoran Top Star, Cheras, KL: Char Koay Teow and Curry Mee

Since our CKT aunty retired, we have been looking around for another char koay teow which would live up to our expectations. We checked out a couple of CKT stalls around Cheras, and one of the stalls that impressed us was in Restoran Top Star located in Taman Connaught.

This kopitiam houses many different food stalls, from Sarawak kolo mee, wantan mee, chee cheong fun, pork noodles and more. We tried the char koay teow from one stall (situated at the far end near the pork noodles stall) as well as the curry mee (from the Sarawak kolo mee stall).

The char koay teow (RM6) was pretty good, you could definitely taste the wok hei in the noodles. It comes with cockles, prawns, fish cake and beansprouts. This stall uses the thin flat noodles which I like best in a char koay teow. Worth coming back for, only next time I'll ask for extra spicy.

The curry mee (RM7) was tasty too, especially the broth which was flavorful and fragrant. This bowl of curry mee came with yellow noodles, tofu puff, cockles, pig's skin and chicken. The only thing I didn't really like was the lean char siew. Overall, would order this again.

The kopitiam also does a decent kopi peng (RM2.60) and kaya toast (RM1.40). If you're a fan of tau fu fah (RM2.20) and soya bean drink, there is a food truck next to BHP Petrol station which sells them.

Will also be back to try their pork noodles next time.

Opening times: 6.30am - 2.00pm.

Location: Restoran Top Star, 153 Jalan Sarjana, Taman Connaught, 56000 Cheras, KL. (Street parking available)

  1. Doesn't look all that enticing but of course, one can never judge a book by its cover. Some really nice dishes aren't all that photogenic...and the great looking ones do not taste that great.
