Woong Kee Bean Curd, Bercham, Ipoh 旺記祖傳豆花

I love a good bowl of tau fu fah, and Ipoh is said to serve some of the best ones. We headed over to Woong Kee Bean Curd, located in Bercham (right outside 7-11 on Jalan Bercham) to tapau some tau fu fah and soya bean drink to go with our egg tarts.

They operate out of a push cart and there are tables and chairs placed on the pavement for those who want to dine in. When I arrived, there was already a long queue. Thankfully, they work very efficiently so I only had to wait about 10 minutes.  In my limited Chinese, I ordered tau fu fah (beancurd) to take away (RM2.30) and was offered the option of either white syrup, black syrup or ginger syrup. For the soya bean drink (RM2.10), they are already prepacked in plastic bags.

Our verdict? I absolutely loved the tau fu fah - it was silky smooth and very soft and I especially enjoyed the fragrant ginger syrup. The soya bean drink was also very good - it tasted extra creamy and was not too sweet.

Price list at Woong Kee

You know BabySumoKids enjoyed it, when they request for the same thing again the following day. This happened with both the egg tarts and soya bean drink, so we made sure we dropped by to these stalls before heading back to KL. Unfortunately for us, Woong Kee was closed (it was a Wednesday), but we spotted another stall selling bean curd and soya bean drinks directly opposite Woong Kee (it doesn't have any signboard except for the words 豆腐花 on the wall - can someone enlighten me and let me know if this is the stall known as Lou Yau Kei?)

We got the bottles as the kids wanted to drink the soya bean in the car enroute to KL - two bottles of soya bean  (RM2.30) and 1 bottle of black soya (soya bean + cincau (grass jelly) (RM2.40), costing us RM7 in total. The uncle at this shop was pretty friendly and could converse in English. The soya bean drink here was also nice and creamy, but a tad sweeter compared to Woong Kee.
