French Dining with Kids at Brasserie 25, Hotel Stripes KL

French dining with kids doesn't have to be an intimidating experience. A good case in point is our recent visit to Brasserie 25 at Hotel Stripes KL with our children - a fantastic dining experience for the whole family, thanks to their warm service and a menu brimming with French comfort food.

We started off our meal with the Foie Gras Poele (RM50), pan seared foie gras served with toasted brioche and warm onion marmalade. We also asked that they served the Roasted Rack of Lamb (RM120) together with the starters, with the intention of letting our kids eat while we enjoy our appetizers .... to our surprise, they asked to try the foie gras and loved it! They've had it before in the past, but didn't quite like it... but it was a whole different story this time, with them ooh-ing and aah-ing as they savoured the luscious foie.

The lamb was beautifully cooked to medium doneness, and is served with mashed potatoes, both of which they love, so they had no problems polishing off the whole plate between the two of them :)

I also ordered the Cabillaud (RM80), a huge chunky piece of roasted cod served with ratatouille, to share with the kids. It was good, but they were more interested in their daddy's L'Entrecote De Boeuf (RM120). Since our last visit, they have replaced the sauce with a beef jus as well as using a thicker cut of steak, which is more to my liking.... it was really good, and I too couldn't resist stealing bites from Hubby's plate.

Since we were feeling ravenous after an afternoon by the pool, we also shared the Confit de Canard (RM60), duck leg confit with truffle mashed potato.

For dessert, we had the Creme Brulee (RM20), a wonderful sweet end to our meal. Crunchy, creamy delight ;)

All dressed up for dinner at this classy venue :)

We returned with the kids on another day for lunch. The same menu is served during lunch, so we opted for new dishes we haven't tried here before. We jokingly asked the kids if they wanted to try escargot (we were telling them what it was during dinner) but they declined. :P Hubby chose the Pasta Pappardelle (RM80) served with braised beef cheek ragout and red wine sauce.. the beef was tender, gelatinous and delicious. He enjoyed this very much. Being the observant boy that he is, Baby D commented that the pappardelle resembled "papa's belt"... which got a few laughs going at the table.

Meanwhile, I had the Slow Cooked Lamb Shank (RM80)... back in the UK, lamb shank was one of my favorite things to eat and I'm so glad to find one living up to my exacting standards in KL. The meat was so so tender and falling off the bone, and loved the flavorful braising sauce that accompanied the lamb.. perfect for eating with the steak fries.

Since the kids loved the lamb rack from dinner, they asked for this again and once more, they devoured it all. ;)

Brasserie 25 is also perfect for couple date night or daytime dating, see my previous post here.

  1. Great review. Is there any other restaurant in KL/PJ you can recommend suitable for a wedding anniversary dinner but welcoming for kids too?
