Dim Sum @ Royal Canton, DC Mall, KL

During the school holidays last week, we took BabySumoKids for dim sum at Royal Canton, located in DC Mall. Previously known as Canton Fare, they relocated to this new mall late last year and are now offering Hong Kong dim sum as well as roasted meats which they are renowned for.

The dim sum menu is available daily (from 12pm on weekdays and 10.30am on weekends) and features steamed, deep fried and baked dim sum, steamed rice rolls, porridge, steamed buns and desserts. Royal Canton prides themselves with serving their customers only freshly made dim sum (never frozen),  with no preservatives or artificial colouring used in their dim sum.

The kids checking out the premium dried seafood display at the front of the restaurant, such as Japanese dried abalone, Japanese spiny dried sea cucumbers and fish maw.

A must-order for us when having dim sum is the Siew Mai (RM10), pork and shrimp dumpling with fish roe. Lovely and juicy, the kids loved them :)

My favorite steamed item here was the Spinach Prawns Dumpling (RM12) - highly recommended. The Har gau (RM12) was excellent too, fresh juicy prawns encased in a thin, translucent dumpling.

Our host also recommended the Homemade Fried Grouper Fish Ball (RM10) - they had a lovely, bouncy texture with hints of spiciness from the chopped chilli. Really nice eaten with the homemade sweet sauce.

Steamed beancurd roll with pork and shrimp (RM12)

From the Specials menu, we sampled the Xiao Long Bao with Crab Roe (RM18)... skillfully made with translucent skin and a flavorful, soupy filling.

Baby C's favorite steamed rice rolls with fresh prawns (RM15)... they also have other fillings such as Hokkaido scallops, BBQ pork, and Wagyu beef.

Lao Sa Bao (RM8), salted egg yolk custard bun... really good! They don't use artificial colouring here, so the green from the bun is derived from pandan leaves.

BabySumoKids guide to eating lao sa bao - squeeze the custard sauce onto a bowl, and then eat it up with your bun. Then lick any leftover sauce. LOL!

We had three types of deep fried dim sum roll, namely the Fresh prawns beancurd roll (RM12), Salad prawn dumpling (RM12) and Lemongrass and pork roll (RM15). All deep fried to crispy perfection.

Nice, fragrant and crispy.

We also ordered the Deep fried squid in salted egg yolk sauce (RM24 for small) from the a la carte menu. The portion was really generous and salted egg yolk anything is YUM!

For dessert, we shared the creamy Mango sago with pomelo (RM10) which is made using real vanilla ice cream from Harley's as well as the refreshing Mixed fruits lemongrass pudding (RM10).

Meanwhile the kids also had the Sesame balls with lotus paste (RM8).

Hubby enjoyed the the Almond paste with egg white (RM12) - it's one of his favorite Chinese desserts.

The egg tarts (RM10) were very good too, with extra flaky puff pastry. For their egg tarts, they use butter instead of margarine for their pastry.

Royal Canton will be offering four special menus for Father Day's celebration, with prices starting from RM488 for 5 pax.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dim sum experience here at Royal Canton - everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. Can't wait to come back and try their other menu offerings :)

  1. Lovely! I miss dim sum...but we do not go anymore as my girl is gluten-intolerant and most of the stuff served is not gluten free.
