Festive Feast @ The Ritz-Carlton KL

The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur is proud to present its inaugural Festive Feast in conjunction with the fasting month. The chefs at The Cobalt Room will be cooking up a stellar showcase of signature dishes representative of the 13 states in Malaysia as well as Middle Eastern specialties. Executive Chef Zaffar and his team will showcase their culinary skills in the form of an exquisite buffet experience, taking guests on a gastronomic journey through Malaysia's colourful food heritage from 27 May to 24 June 2017.

Start your journey at the kerabu (Malay salad) counter - here, you will find Umai Sarawak (a Malaysian version of ceviche), kerabu daging from Kelantan (beef salad), kerabu taugeh from Perlis (beansprout salad), kerabu kacang botol Peranakan from Melaka (winged bean salad), acar jelatah from Perak (pineapple and cucumber salad), kerabu mangga dengan udang from Kedah, (mango and prawn salad) , pecal sotong dan kangkung from Johor (Javanese salad with cuttlefish and water convolvulus), ulam-ulaman and condiments such as ikan masin and telur masin (salted egg and fish).

I was delighted to see one of my favorite local snacks, keropok lekor from Terengganu...hardly any hotels offer this at Ramadan time. :)

The most popular station of all, kambing panggang (whole roasted lamb). Tender and juicy, served with mint sauce.  Join in the queue and get some!

Satay ayam and daging (chicken and beef grilled skewers)... a must-have here!

The array of state specialties on offer here was impressive, you will find Malaysian delights such as nasi kerabu with gulai ikan tongkol (mackarel curry) from Terengganu, ikan patin masak tempoyak from Pahang, masak lemak pucuk manis from Perlis (sweet leaf in coconut milk), sayur lodeh from Johor (vegetables simmered in coconut milk curry), ayam perchik from Kelantan (coconut spiced chicken), gulai daging dengan nangka from Kedah (beef and jackfruit curry) , sambal udang petai from Perak (stink bean with prawn sambal), paru goreng berlada from Selangor, (spicy beef lung) rendang daging tok Perak (dry beef rendang), ikan tenggiri asam pedas from Melaka (spicy-sour mackarel) and pajeri nenas berempah from Johor (curried pineapple). You will also find the Ramadan must-have dish, bubur lambuk from Selangor.

Lemang

Roti canai and ayam murtabak from Kuala Lumpur

At the noodles station, guests can enjoy Meehoon sup utara from Perlis, curry laksa from Kedah, mee goreng mamak Penang, or meehoon goreng Johor.

Don't forget to check out the shish kebab as well as shawarma station - absolutely delicious.

I personally love the ikan bakar (grilled fish) from Sabah, featuring ikan cencaru, ikan keli, and tilapia.

Always leave room for dessert. Indulge in the local kuih such as kuih lopes from Perlis, cucur badak and talam ubi from Kedah, talam pandan from Perak, kuih seri muka from Kelantan, kuih koci from Negeri Sembilan, and onde-onde from Selangor. There are lots of sweet buburs to choose from, such as bubur kacang hijau from Selangor, bubur pulut hitam from Perlis, and bubur cha cha from Kedah.
