White Asparagus @ Villa Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL

White asparagus is one of my favorite spring vegetables, with its delicate earthy flavours and tender texture. From now until 24 June 2016, diners can enjoy a selection of dishes featuring the revered white asparagus specially put together by Italian Head Chef , Gaetano di Stefano at Villa Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL. The seasonal white asparagus featured in this promotion are imported from France.

The White Asparagus menu will feature 2 antipasti, 1 soup, 5 main courses and even 2 desserts.
Prices start from RM32 nett per dish.

To start, we had the Asparagi Bianchi Al Vapore (Steamed White Asparagus Served with Poached Egg and Hollandaise Sauce - RM62) and Asparagi Con Fegato D’oca (Pan Fried Foie Gras with Onion, White Asparagus and Balsamic Reduction - RM82). The white asparagus in all the dishes were beautifully cooked, retaining its crunchy, tender texture. The foie gras and white asparagus combination was a real treat, and the classic egg-asparagus-hollandaise combo was nice too.

For mains, we shared the risotto, cod and tenderloin steak. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the mains, and even made sure to let the chef know. We loved the Merluzzo Al Cartoccio (RM110), a classic dish of cod fish wrapped in parchment and baked. The delicate fish was beautifully cooked and served with white asparagus, sun dried tomatoes and caperberries.

The Risotto Asparagi E Taleggio (RM60) was pretty mild in taste. The risotto was served with the white asparagus and Taleggio cheese.

The Filetto Di Manzo (RM138) features a Black Angus beef tenderloin, cooked to our preferred doneness and served with truffled potato terrine, white asparagus as well as a flavorful caponata.

When there is good food on the table, BabySumoKids would eat loads... so it turned out 3 dishes weren't enough for sharing. We ordered the Tagliata Di Manzo (RM130) from the a la carte menu,  a gorgeous piece of striploin (220g), grilled to medium rare and sliced, and served with a simple arugula salad, cherry tomatoes and Parmesan shavings. I enjoyed this a lot.

I was intrigued as to how the chef would incorporate white asparagus on the menu, so we decided to try both the desserts from the White Asparagus promotion - the Affogato D’asparagi Bianchi (White asparagus Affogato - RM32) and Tiramisu Agli Asparagi (White Asparagus and Pistachio Tiramisu -RM45). The asparagus taste is actually very mild and not really apparent. We were told that the asparagus was blended together to make the ice cream for the affogato, and also added to the mascarpone in the tiramisu. We were also served the classic tiramisu from the a la carte menu, and it was really good - I much prefer this to the white asparagus version.
