Spa Village Kuala Lumpur, The Ritz-Carlton KL - Tun Teja

It is easy to forget you are in the centre of bustling KL city when you enter the Spa Village Kuala Lumpur. Located on Level 4 of The Ritz-Carlton KL, the multiple award-winning Spa Village Kuala Lumpur is a tropical urban spa, offering some of the best spa experiences in KL.

During our recent staycation at The Ritz-Carlton KL, Hubby kindly entertained the kids as I escaped to the refurbished Spa Village KL for a few hours of pampering and rejuvenation.

What makes the experience here truly unique is that it introduces guests to an authentic taste of each locality through treatments based on natural indigenous ingredients and traditional healing practices with the highest level of service.

At the Spa Village Kuala Lumpur, treatments are based on the cultural diversity and rich healing heritage of the Nusantara region, with a menu that includes Malay, Peranakan (a mix of Chinese and Malay) and Western treatments. Over here, you will also find the brand new Sensory Room, the only one of its kind in Asia, which will provide a combination of sensory sensations designed to soothe, and heighten awareness.

I have previously tried the Campur-Campur as well as Rose Therapy treatment here. This time, I had the Tun Teja, a traditional Malay treatment named in honour of the much-loved last queen of Melaka. Treatments are conducted in a suite enclosed in a private landscaped terrace; these suites have also undergone refurbishment and is now sporting a brighter, modern outlook.

A welcome drink is served upon arrival

The three-hour treatment begins with the Urutan Kebayan (ladies traditional princess massage), followed by Lulur Cendana Cangi (Body Scrub), Siram Panca Cahaya (Royal Herbal Bath), Alin-Alin Puteri (Herbal Oil Application), Wap Cindai Berahi (Scented Body Steaming) and Santapan Junjung Puteri (Scented Roots Drink).

The massage is thought to have been invented by Tun Teja's personal beauty consultant. For this massage, the therapist used the minyak kebayan; a massage containing melati, a potent jungle flower as its main ingredient. The massage was nice and relaxing, and helps in improving blood circulation and alleviating tension and muscle pain.

A warm foot bath before the treatment began. My therapist, Rina scrubs my feet with the kaffir lime

After the massage, I was treated to the body scrub, hair creme treatment, body steaming and ending with a rose milk bath; the treatment I received differed slightly as I notified them of an allergy I had beforehand and they kindly changed part of the treatment to accommodate me. I enjoyed every minute of the treatment, feeling totally refreshed and glowing after the end of three hours. I was then ushered back to the Relaxation Lounge for a drink and cookie.

Living it up, like a princess
