Li Yen, The Ritz-Carlton KL - Authentic Cantonese Cuisine

Li Yen is The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur's award-winning signature Chinese restaurant. While many hotels opted for the pork-free route, Li Yen is one who has not jumped on the bandwagon and is proudly non-halal. The restaurant has been around since 1997, serving the finest authentic Cantonese cuisine and sumptuous dim sum.

Li Yen, which signifies "Beautiful Garden" in Chinese is located on Level 2 of the hotel wing. This elegant restaurant is dressed in rich red furnishing, dark wood finishing and classical Chinese art. In the evenings, a harpist will play traditional and classic Chinese melodies on the 145-string yangqin. 




During our recent staycation at The Ritz-Carlton KL, we dined here with BabySumoKids for dinner. From the menu, we picked several of its signature dishes. The first dish that we chose is the Peking Duck served with steamed sesame pancakes (RM80 for medium).  Back in 2012, I interviewed Chef Leung and he told me that he sources his ingredients locally whenever possible. Made using local duck, the Peking duck is brought out and then the skin is skillfully removed and then wrapped with the steamed pancakes, along with a sweet plum sauce.

Baby D asked if he could have some of the duck meat, so the kitchen chopped up a duck drumstick for him. Both his sister and himself enjoyed it a lot :) The meat is sent back into the kitchen, for either a rice or noodle dish to be prepared depending on the customer's request.



Meanwhile, we had the stir fried scallops (RM91) which was sauteed with mushrooms, spring onions and carrot. We find Li Yen's dishes to be less oily and would certainly suit the tastebuds of the health-conscious.



Another signature dish which we had was Li Yen's golden prawns (RM91 for small). The prawns were fresh and large, deep fried until golden brown and is served with a thousand island dressing and coated with shredded yam.



We chose to have noodles, cooked using the deboned Peking duck meat - sang meen is one of my favorite noodles, so I enjoyed this thoroughly.

For dessert, we shared the homemade mango pudding (RM16), chilled sago cream with honeydew (RM16) and chilled coconut jelly served in a whole young coconut. A refreshing end to our meal.



Non-halal/ Serves pork.

  1. The place is classic! I love the color, the furniture and the theme. As for the food, I can't decide which one is my favorite!
