Hotel Review: Sofitel So Singapore

For my birthday this year, we went down to Singapore for the weekend to spend some quality time together as well as indulge in good food. We spent our first night in the amazing Sofitel So Singapore, a luxury boutique hotel located in the heart of Singapore Central Business District. We fell So-in love as soon as we stepped foot inside this beautiful hotel.

Sofitel So Singapore is housed within an iconic heritage building built in 1927 on Robinson Road. It is designed by Singapore's only French design house, MIAJA design Group, led by award-winning designer, Isabelle Miaja and also features stylish graphic touches by the legendary Karl Lagerfeld.

Sofitel So Singapore features 134 luxuriously designed guestrooms, including 9 suites, located within a So Hip wing and a So Heritage wing. We stayed in the So Studio room located in the So Heritage wing, and it just oozes with French 18th century charm and sophistication. Tastefully decorated, each room is enhanced by 3m high ceilings and bespoke light boxes set above each bed, featuring images of palatial glass domes inspired by French cupolas. You will also find Karl Lagerfeld's graphic touch through a variety of objects in the rooms such as the BooKube, an exclusive bookend art piece. There are also local touches, such as the customised cushions with Singapore's road names.

Gorgeous room ;)

The So Studio room comes with a queen sized bed, and a headboard featuring a contemporary interpretation of Singapore's national flower, orchid. With the modern traveller in mind, each room is equipped with the world’s first completely Apple®-based guest technology solution in every room, including iPad minis to control all room functions and iPhones to call for hotel requests. All rooms also come with complimentary Wifi via the So Connected network.

The bathrooms come with designer bathrobe featuring Karl Lagerfeld’s “The Lion’s Seal” emblem as well as bespoke amenities for him and her.

Each room also comes with complimentary mini bar which includes Singaporean local snacks and canned drinks. There is also a Illy espresso machine for your coffee needs.

Although the hotel lobby area is compact, it is a beautiful and colorful space with interesting decor, unique artworks and a captivating hexagonal light installation called L'Hexagone, which is inspired by France's abstract hexagon shape on the map. Here, you can sit back and enjoy your welcome drink, the Signature #35 cocktail. You can also check out la BibiloteK, an intimate and inviting library space with a selection of books personally chosen by Karl Lagerfeld.

There is a rooftop pool up on the 6th Floor of the hotel, featuring the only gold-tiled swimming pool in Singapore, cabanas and views of the CBD. There is also an exclusive rooftop bar, HI-SO, popular with fashionable urbanites, and offers unique designer cocktails and delicious gourmet bites.  You can also find a fitness centre, So Fit on Level 2 which is opened 24 hours.

The signature restaurant and bar of Sofitel So Singapore, Xperience is where you can get your breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast (6.30am to 11am on weekends), expect an international spread - although the spread is small, the quality is excellent and I especially loved the selection of cold cuts such as Parma ham and really lovely poached eggs. For lunch and dinner, diners can immerse themselves in an experiential gastro-bar dining experience - we had a wonderful, So-memorable dinner here - read more here.

The hotel is strategically located near Raffles Place, and is minutes away from the city's most iconic landmarks such as Marina Bay Sands, Boat Quay and Chinatown. Located right next door to the hotel is Lau Pa Sat, a bustling food centre, worth checking in the evenings to get your fix of local food such as satay, chicken wings, seafood and more.

This iconic neo-classical heritage building was first built in 1927 as the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company Building and was given conservative status in 2000.

Thank you So-much to Sofitel So Singapore for hosting our wonderful stay!
