Thai Food in Midvalley, KL - Tiffin's by Chef Korn

We visited Tiffin's by Chef Korn with Baby D when it first opened in 2014, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. A couple of weeks ago, I received an invitation from the restaurant to return and try their current menu and some of their new offerings, which I gladly accepted.

Tiffin's by Chef Korn serves village-style Thai food. The menu here is developed by Chef Korn of Erawan (voted 2nd Best Restaurant in Malaysia), and here at this restaurant, he recreates the dishes that he and his family have cooked through the years. Chef Korn cares about the quality of his food, hence lots of ingredients and spices are imported from Thailand, in order to maintain the real taste of Thai food.

The restaurant is located on the third floor of Midvalley, KL (near Daiso's upper level). The ambiance is casual and service is friendly. Since our last visit, the menu has expanded to include more appetizers as well as noodles and a la carte dishes.

To start, we had their signature drink, the Tom Yum Mojito (RM9.80). This non-alcoholic drink is made from soda water, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, lime and cili padi - a nice, refreshing drink! We also had the Thai milk tea (RM7.80) which was thick and creamy.

One of my favorite dishes of the afternoon is this grilled pork neck (RM23.80); the pork neck fillet has been marinated in spices and then grilled and is served with a tangy homemade sauce and glutinous rice. The staff explained that the way to eat this is to wrap some glutinous rice in the grilled pork, and then dip into the sauce. I really liked this a lot!

Fire Balls (RM17.80) is one of the new items on the menu and each serving comes with 5 pieces. Made from minced pork, ground roasted rice, ground roasted dried chilli, spring onion, coriander and shallots, this had a nice, spicy kick to it and the balls were also light and flavourful.

Khaw soi (RM19.80) is a popular northern Thai noodle dish, and it has recently been introduced to Tiffin's menu due to customer requests. The broth is made using Chef Korn's own recipe of Khaw Soi curry paste, and is very rich, creamy and slightly spicy. A whole chicken leg is served with the egg noodles. The noodle set comes with Chef Korn's daily appetizer, a fresh Thai-based salad as well as fresh fruits served in a small tiffin carrier.

I love tom yum, but we rarely order it when we eat out, as Hubby finds it a bit too spicy. Fret not, as Tiffn's serves the clear tom yum with the cili padi on the side, hence you can add on the chilli later to suit your preferred spiciness level. We ordered the seafood tom yum (RM28.80) which came with an abundance of prawns and squid as well as mushrooms. The soup was tangy and spicy (just nice for Hubby), so so good!

Even your kids can enjoy this non-spicy tom yum

We also tried Daddy's Stewed Pork (RM25.80), a favorite with Chef's father, made with tender pork belly in garlic and pepper sauce and a hard boiled egg. The green curry chicken (RM23.80) was also good, I especially liked the rich, thick sauce which is good eaten with rice. If you order 3 dishes from the a la carte menu, they will be served in tiffin carriers, just like how they used to do it in villages.
