Recipe: Dried Fruit Raw Energy Balls (Ramadan)

During the Ramadan month,  dates are in abundance in supermarkets as they are often consumed after a day of fasting. Dates are an excellent source of fiber, sugar, magnesium, potassium, and have carbohydrates which will provide a quick boost of energy and help the body in maintaining health.

This is a Ramadan-inspired snack hubby made specially for the kids since we had a box of dates sitting in the kitchen. Great as an energy booster :)

They're incredibly easy to make, raw and healthy! The energy balls contain some of our favorite dried fruits such as dried apricots, dried dates, dried cranberries - simply whizz them in a food processor, add in softened butter and roll into balls and coat with toasted sesame seeds. We made them in mini sizes, easy to pop a whole one in the mouth! :) Next time, we're making double or triple the quantity below, as we finished all these in one seating.

Mini Dried Fruit Energy Balls
Recipe by Baby Sumo, slightly adapted from BBC Good Food
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Makes about 25

Ingredients
50g soft dried apricots
100g soft dried dates
50g dried cranberries
1 tbsp softened butter
6 tbsp toasted sesame seed

1. In a food processor, whizz apricots with dates and cherries  until very finely chopped. You can also use a blender with a chopping function, like Kitchen Aid. It will resemble a paste once done.

2. Place the dried fruit mixture in a mixing bowl, add the softened butter and mix well. Shape into mini balls (I used a milk scoop and divided into half each time) and then roll in sesame balls.

3. Store in an airtight container and place in refridgerator. Enjoy!

Note: Original recipe uses coconut oil instead of butter, so you can use that if you have it.
