Le Moon's Eatery.Bakery.Zakka @ Jade Hills, Kajang, Selangor

Kajang is not someplace we often visit, however we heard that Chef Steven Kruger (of the now defunct Romanza) is the head chef at Le Moon's in Jade Hills, Kajang, we headed over one day for lunch. The restaurant is located in the row of shophouses just before the Jade Hills residence entrance. It's hard to miss with its vibrant turquoise shopfront.

Le Moon's

As we walked in the restaurant, we were greeted by their friendly and enthusiastic servers. Though the restaurant is made up of 3 storeys, on normal days only the ground floor is open for business. At the moment, it is opened from 8am to 6pm but we were told that they will soon open for dinner (end of March tentatively) with a fine dining concept.

The interior is simple yet cosy, and the ambiance is really nice for spending a quiet, relaxed afternoon here.

Some comfortable seating at the front of the restaurant, where you can sit back and enjoy a book. They also have bakery items for sale by the counter.

They are operating on a temporary menu right now and the new a la carte menu will be launched after their Grand Launch sometime this month. We ordered 2 appetizers and a burger to share. First to arrive was the wild mushroom risotto (RM18), which looked pretty similar to the one we had at Romanza before. This was delicious - nicely cooked risotto with slow roasted cherry tomatoes, goat’s cheese croquettes, pan fried shimeji mushrooms and a crisp mushroom-truffle oil tortellini.

The New Zealand mussels (RM23) are steamed and served in a creamy garlic and thyme sauce. A side of crusty homemade bread is served to mop up the rich sauce. This was surprisingly very filling.

The beef burger (RM29) was also excellent - 100% homemade beef patty, served with turkey bacon, caramelised onions, Parmesan shavings and wild mushroom sauce. It was nice and juicy, and we also enjoyed the crispy onion rings.

Since we had time to kill (and some more room for desserts), we ordered the only dessert available on their menu, almond parfait (RM15) and a slice of red velvet cake (RM8). The cake was a little dry, and could be improved.  I don't mean to rave, but the almond parfait was so good. For us, this was one of the best desserts we've eaten in KL this year. The almond parfait was creamy and dreamy, and served with a refreshing apple sorbet, warm doughnut, chocolate honeycomb and a sweet apple crisp.

Almond parfait - pretty and delicious!
