Lunch @ Cilantro Restaurant & Wine Bar, KL

"Darling, would you like to go to Cilantro for lunch?" Hubby asked me one afternoon. No prize for guessing what my answer was. 

It's been a while since we came here for a meal, the last few times we tried to book a table, the restaurant was fully booked. I love our table this afternoon, next to the large windows with lots of natural lighting. Perfect for food shots! :D

It was the perfect setting for a romantic lunch. Crisp white tablecloths, contrasted by the red orchids. Soft music playing in the background. Toasting to love with a glass of Mimosa. It's all good. 



Every Friday, Cilantro KL serves up a 4-course set lunch for RM150 nett, inclusive of a glass of Mimosa. The set lunch menu rotates weekly. While waiting for our first course to arrive, we happily ate slices of warm bread with the infamous truffle butter - simply to die for.

How clever of Hubby to choose to come this week for lunch - our first course is confit of foie gras with walnut and brioche, served with a seaweed jelly. My favourite dish of the afternoon, the foie gras was smooth, rich and simply divine. We took time to slowly savour this with the brioche. The accompanying salad was slightly tart, good for cutting some of the richness of the foie gras.

On the menu posted online, the second course was supposed to be Landes white asparagus but on the restaurant menu, it has been changed to risotto of green asparagus with Sakura ebi. No complains from us, since we love risotto and the one here was very nicely cooked, every bite exuding an essence of the sea. The crispy Sakura ebi added a nice crunch to the dish.

For mains, diners get to choose between the fillet of turbot with hotaruika and young wakame or grilled US prime ribeye. Being huge meat lovers, we both picked the latter. Chef's recommended doneness is medium which we accepted, no doubt the meat was nicely cooked but the portion was really small. 3 thin slices at the front and another 2 smaller slices at the back. Hubby thinks that they are both different cuts since the one at the back tastes beefier and more juicy (which we prefer).

Dessert is fresh juicy strawberries served with a duo of pistachio and vanilla ice cream with crumble. The ice-cream was very good, but I would prefer if a fine dining restaurant could serve something more unique/creative for desserts. But nonetheless, we enjoyed this simple dessert.

Opening times: Lunch - available on Fridays only. (12.00pm -2.00pm). Dinner - Monday to Saturday (6.00pm - 10.30pm). Closed on Sundays.


Service: Excellent.

  2. Hmm..yes dessert did seem a bit of a cop out after all those gloriously designed savouries. I think foie gras would have been my fav too - i just can't resist it!

    If my husband suggests to dine in this place, I wouldn't waste ever a split second to hesitate. The truffle butter creates a great impression...

  5. Nice! I'd only been to Cilantro once before for dinner ... food was exemplary but our experience was marred by a rowdy group at another table making a TON of noise. Was a bit miffed both at them for not behaving and at the wait staff for not doing a thing about it.

  9. gosh, it has actually been three years since my last visit to cilantro. time does zoom by! :D ooh, and i like how you said 'toasting to love' with mimosas. sweet and refreshingly sincere :D

  11. Your hubby knows how to hold the champagne glass.. u don't! kehkeh.. :P teasing only ar..! Food really looks simply divine.. and of course you would say YES la.. who wouldn't! Weren't you guys curious to try the fillet of turbot.. if you took one each we can see the photo! yum yum!! :D

  15. Truffle butter, so luxury! I hate & love eating at a good restaurant because of the lighting, don't you agree? They use yellow lights & our pictures all show yellow too! And if I chose to use flash, they turn up white white with no feeling, haha!

    1. Hehe yellow light = romantic but not so good for photos. But we were lucky we were sat next to the window so lovely natural lighting for my photos. I will never use flash in a fine dining restaurant, grabbing too much attention!
