Set Lunch @ Renoma Cafe Gallery, KL

*Please note that Renoma Cafe is no longer at this location and has moved to IKON Connaught in Cheras, KL.

Since Renoma Cafe Gallery opened last September, I have been wanting to visit - mainly because of the photos of beautifully plated food I have seen on blogs and their Facebook page. Originally I wanted to go for their Sunday Brunch but was turned down when I tried to make a reservation as they were fully booked. So we ended up going for lunch last week, when it was less busy in the restaurant.

Beautiful starter

Renoma Cafe Gallery in KL is their first F&B outlet outside of Paris. The interior of the restaurant is quite trendy and modern, and has quite good natural lighting during the day. Judging from the menu, they serve Asian-inspired French cuisine. For lunch, they offer a 3-course set lunch for RM39++ or choose from the lunch/bistro a la carte menu. The set lunch menu changes every fortnight and is published on their FB page (along with some photos) hence you can view it before you go to see if it is to your liking. The set lunch sounded good, so we both chose that.

There were a few choices but we both picked the same thing for both starter and mains. We started off with the Organic Egg-Caviar, a beautifully presented soft poached egg topped with Avruga caviar and also three pieces of forest mushroom gnocchi. A girolle and star anise emulsion was poured tableside, at first we were afraid the star anise would be overpowering but we could hardly taste it (which is a good thing). The emulsion was very flavorful and the egg was perfectly cooked. A very good start to our meal.

Next we ordered the Sirloin Steak, which is actually slow roasted grass-fed beef striploin with sauce aux champignon. Since it was slow-roasted, the only doneness you will get is well done here. The beef had a nice char but the meat required a little bit more chewing work. I like the curried butternut squash puree served with it, the sweetness of the squash goes well with beef. Although we both ordered the same thing, Hubby's portion was significantly larger than mine.. boohoo!

Desserts was a selection of mini sweet patisserie. Again, nicely presented and everything can popped into the mouth in one go. The macaron was decent as well as the creme brulee. Not sure what the one with the strawberry slice is but it had a crunchy biscuit-like base.

  5. Ok, looking at what's in the set...but I would not want to spend so much for lunch. Rather have something lighter and cheaper.

    1. Hubby and I like to go out for lunch dates rather than dinner dates, so I guess this is reasonably priced for us. :)
