All you need to do is freeze your ripe bananas for 2-3 hours, then blend them until smooth and creamy. That's it! One thing to note though is that the ice cream does melt quite quickly, so eat it as soon as you've blended it.
You won't feel guilty for giving this to your kids, because it has none of the bad preservatives and coloring. All natural and healthy, and which kid can resist banana ice cream? ;)

1. Place frozen bananas into the bowl of a stick blender fitted with chopper attachment (I used a hand blender which worked just fine too). Blend until smooth and creamy. Serve immediately with topping of your choice.

Wow...interesting!! Sounds easy too
ReplyDeleteYup, very easy! Anyone can do it ;)
DeleteLooks great! My kids loved it :) So now when I am too lazy to bake muffins with ripe bananas, into the freezer they go ha ha
ReplyDeleteMich, you are right... banana ice cream is miles easier than muffins. ;P
DeleteI actually love eating bananas but after reading this http://blog.massivehealth.com/post/19358238102/are-bananas-really-as-bad-for-you-as-cookies - I was rather disturb.
ReplyDeleteI would say eat everything in moderation and you will be fine.
DeleteI read the article, it just says that banana jus doesn't keep you satiated as long. But I really dont understand how an orange can keep you full longer, cos everytime I eat an orange I will get hungry immediately cos of the acidic fruit. Btw popcorn has also recently been ousted a food that is not good for you, so I think the article needs a little updating.
Wow this is amazing! I have only tried to make ice cream once (and failed miserably) so even I could get this right! Plus I loooove bananas. Genius.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how it goes... I would say success rate for this is high!
DeleteHot day? Ice cream melting... LOL!!! No, thanks...I don't think I will ever manage to make ice cream. Definitely no masterchef, that's for sure...far from it!
ReplyDeleteYea, hot day and also I was taking photos ma! But I did mention that this ice cream will melt faster, as will all homemade ones and sorbet.
DeleteWhat!?!?!
ReplyDeleteAll u need is banana, freeze it and blend it?!! how come it becomes ice cream?
Tt means I can do the same for any fruits such as honeydew/apple?
It's actually just blended frozen fruit, but it tastes just like ice cream. Banana has a nice creamy texture.
DeleteI have not tried honeydew/apple but I think it would taste more like sorbet, cos they are less creamy fruits. I've seen ppl combining banana with strawberries and other fruits. Let me know if u try any and how it turns out!
wow, this looks great. it looks nicer than "real" ice cream in fact, more natural-looking and with a nice balance of creamy and melting textures! heheh, now i'm dreaming of mangosteen ice cream :D
ReplyDeleteNow Sean, that is a fabulous idea! Mangosteen ice cream sounds great... may try it one of these days!
DeleteSimple ice cream indeed! I've made this before and ended up finishing the ice creams-- simply means that I had 3-4 bananas one shot. LOL it's loaded with calories la if i eat like that..;P
ReplyDeleteHaha if u dont make so much, then u won't eat so much. LOL!
Deleteooo sounds easy to do..
ReplyDeleteYes yes, think anyone can do it ;)
DeleteThis one seems easy to make, can I add some peanut butter in it? :P
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, banana and peanut butter shd be a great combo or banana and nutella and peanut butter!
DeleteWow just look at that yummy ice cream with chocolate chips...great job!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amrita, its just a great way to use up the overripe bananas!
DeleteYen, I said b4 & I'm going to say again, Matt Preston is one of the world's best food critic & he is also one of the original judges from Day 1 in Australia version, I love him, the soft giant, hahaha, you should see the size difference when he stood next to George, another of my fav judge.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, good pick of recipe, This recipe showed up in the latest Season of Masterchef(Season 4) & it was the 1st time Matt demonstrated how to cook.
I read a lot of comments on MasterChef Australia website, the viewers always comment that Matt Preston's recipes are always very easy. I think it's great for homecooks, cos not always we can have a lot of time to make elaborate dishes, right?
DeleteOh yum ! Refreshingly delicious and so easy to make ! Love it !
ReplyDeleteHehe yes, easy is the keyword here! LOL.
DeleteMy sister has been making this very often... but I haven't had the chance yet. Usually bananas at home disappear very quickly!
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed with this recipe too! This ice cream is so healthy and easy to make. I saw Jamie Oliver made his mango ice cream using the same method too and look forward to try for this coming summer :D
ReplyDeleteLove Matt and Love his anybody-can-do recipes. Trust him to come up with "one ingredient" only icecream.
ReplyDeleteThis looks yummy! Will surely give this s try :D
