Mother's Day Treat @ DISH, Dua Annexe KL

For my first Mother's Day treat this year, Hubby took me to DISH for their set lunch. This was a day before we went on our Singapore trip. A girl loves to be pampered, even when she's already a mother.. agree? ;)

We love visiting DISH on a Friday as it is relatively quiet and it feels like we get the whole restaurant to ourselves.

Complimentary bread

Eggplant fritters - my fav, give me this over bread anytime!

Just before we tucked into our starters, I got a special lesson on "how to make gnocchi" from Chef Steve Allen. He showed me how it is made since I'm a noob  clueless when it comes to making any sort of pasta (well, except the tortellini ;)) Special thanks to Chef Steve for showing me, now I can try to attempt it at home too... and when I'm successful, I will post the recipe on the blog.

Back to our starters, Hubby had the baked gnocchi with brie and tomato salad. The gnocchi had a nice texture. I had the Braised mushrooms and asparagus with fried egg on brioche - it has all of my favorite ingredients and has been executed very well. We also got to try the white onion soup, with sambal cod fritters - the soup was creamy and the sambal was a very nice addition to the fritters, slightly sweet with a tinge of spiciness.

For mains, I chose the chargrilled grass fed rib eye served with sweetcorn and anchovies, sweet potato croquettes and chilli sauce charon.  The rib eye was slightly thicker than the striploin that we had here the previous week and was also a much more flavorful cut. I like!

Medium rare!

Sweet potato croquette - nice

Hubby would usually order the steak too, but he decided to try something different. He had the roasted chicken with oregano, confit chicken with parmesan crumble and vegetables. Though the chicken was moist, I think he was still secretly eyeing my steak ;P (I did share!)

You shoot me, I shoot you..

Desserts here are always delightful. I enjoyed my pain perdu with mangosteen puree and granita and mascarpone-lemon ice cream - sweet and tangy. (Pain perdu is French toast, and literally translates to "lost bread" in French).  But Hubby's green guava tart tatin with lime ice cream stole the limelight, it was absolutely delicious - wonderfully crumbly pastry.

I enjoyed my Mother's Day treat at DISH, thanks Hubby. Will be going back to DISH soon for the fourth time :)

    1. One thing I find about DISH is that portions are very generous. It's a huge contrast with Sage, I go to Sage and I feel hungry by 3pm but if I have the set lunch at DISH, I can stay full til 10pm!

  3. Sighhh we've only been there once, and you're making us long for another trip there! You really enjoy the eggplant fritters over the bread? It's a tough choice, but I shall agree to disagree with you on that. =D

    1. Usually I only eat a lot of bread at places like Sage, when I know the food portions are small and I need bread to fill me up. At DISH, the portions are very generous, hence I never find the need to eat too much bread (I always just have a slice) and the eggplant fritters seem like a better snack than bread.

  8. ooo, the fried egg looks perfect. i had a fried egg at another cafe this week, and it was flat and not runny enough there :D i wonder why dish is quiet on fridays. i thought that's the day when lots of folks schedule long, indulgent lunches, heh :D oops, and no, i still haven't had the mangosteen dessert here yet! argh! i keep having my meals away from the city center this week :D

    1. Eggs may seem like the simplest thing to cook/make, but to make the perfect egg, it's not that easy.

We can't figure out why they're so quiet on Fridays as well, we also guessed that they would be busy seeing lots of people have long lunch hours.
