Hotel Review: The Gardens Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Going away for the weekend? Looking on the web for a hotel to stay in? There are so many hotels to choose from, which do you choose?

We chose to stay at The Gardens Hotel on this ocassion mainly due to its location. And I also wanted to dine in Sage Restaurant on that night.

We booked an executive deluxe room which included access to the Executive Lounge and breakfast for two in the morning. The deluxe room was slightly cheaper but did not include access to the lounge or breakfast. Check-in is conducted on the Executive Lounge (you will be escorted upstairs).

The rooms here were spacious (38sq m) with a King-sized bed, study table, LCD TV, rain shower and separate long bath. Lots of wood panelling on the bathroom and walkway walls. Before bedtime, I ordered a feather pillow and bolster from their pillow menu. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, I had a really good night's sleep. Good soundproofing too, I didn't hear any sound from outside.

One of the best features of the hotel is its Executive Lounge. Immediately after check-in, we went back to the Executive Lounge to enjoy the "cocktail hour" between 5-7pm. I'm not sure what "cocktails" they serve here, but they had some wine, beer and whisky on display. I had 2 glasses of white wine, lots of bites to eat and a cuppa tea. Hubby had 2 beers, 2 glasses of red wine and some bites while surfing using the free wifi. Light bites include char koay teow, seared tuna topped with ebiko, prawn parcels and lots of lovely pastries and cakes. I had to stop myself from gorging on all these yummies because we had a table booked at Sage in an hour's time. Don't wanna ruin the appetite now do we? It's definitely worth paying extra for access to the Executive Lounge.

Breakfast is served in the Executive Lounge or The Spread and we went to the latter. The Spread is the hotel's all day buffet restaurant. They claim to serve the largest buffet in town. I have to say the spread here is really impressive, lots and lots food and it tastes really good. There is an egg counter, choose from scrambled, omelette, boiled, poached or fried egg. Nice herby sausages here, not lousy frankfurters you get at most places. Hubby made a salad concoction which had lettuce, olives, smoked salmon, cheddar sprinkled with balsamic vinegar which was lovely. Dim sum, wantans, local cakes, muffins, cereal, noodles, waffles, pancakes.. name it, they have it. A really good start to the morning.
