Menya Appare, Isetan The Gardens, KL

Located at the newly opened The Table in Isetan The Gardens, Menya Appare is well worth visiting for its Japanese ramen. Each bowl of ramen is made from carefully selected ingredients, both imported from Japan and locally sourced. Appare in Japanese means "wonderful" or "brilliant" and the ramen we had here sure was "appare".

We had the Deluxe Tonkotsu Ramen (RM38) as well as the Deluxe Black Tonkotsu Ramen (RM39), which comes with pork shoulder char siew and pork belly char siew, ajitama and seaweed.

The broth is rich and flavorful; pork bones undergo over 20 different processes for more than 48 hours for maximum flavour extraction.  The black tonkotsu ramen comes with black ma-oil, a fragrant garlic oil made from a blend of 7 types of garlic. The ajitama here, made with Kenkori eggs, is superb, with a perfectly runny centre.

If you order the set, it also comes with 3 pieces of gyoza and refillable green tea.

Opening hours: Tue-Sun 11.30am - 3pm; 5.30pm - 9pm. Closed on Mondays

Location: Menya Appare, Isetan The Gardens, The Table, 3F, The Gardens Mall, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, 59200 Kuala Lumpur. (Parking RM2 for first 3 hours on weekday, RM3 for first 3 hours on weekend)

  1. I'm more into clear soup, not so fond of the rich broth in Japanese noodle dishes.
