Flakes, The Hub SS2, PJ

Flakes is a new cafe in The Hub SS2, revolving around croissants, Australian-inspired brunches and coffee. Warm smiles and turquoise walls greeted us as we stepped into this pretty cafe.

On the menu, you will find all-day breakfast, mains such as salmon and chicken, rice bowls, pasta and dessert. There are also cakes and croissants on display at the counter.

The plain croissant makes an appearance in all their breakfast dishes. We chose one of their bestsellers, the Crabmeat Scrambled Eggs (RM22) - fluffy scrambled eggs with crabmeat, served in a toasted croissant, along with a smoked paprika aioli and fried shallots.

We also had the Fork roast chicken don (RM15), a satisfying rice bowl of sticky, sweet roasted chicken accompanied by Jordan's sauce (which comes with a touch of espresso) and topped with a runny poached egg, pickled carrot, daikon and edamame.

Seafood lovers will enjoy the Tai Tai by the Beach (RM24), a special squid and prawn pasta with alcohol-free ale, cheese as well as a touch of local flavours such as bunga kantan, lemongrass, and cili padi.

The croissants are made with French flour and butter and baked fresh daily at the premises. When ordering, you will be asked if you would like your croissants toasted - we highly recommend it as the croissants taste best warm. There are five flavours to choose from currently - plain, matcha, cinnamon, pistachio and almond (priced between RM7 - RM9 each). My personal favourite is the almond, followed by pistachio...perfect with a cuppa coffee! Beautifully flaky and buttery.. yum.

There is also a dessert version, the Raspberry French Toast (RM15), a sinful combination of toasted croissant with raspberry compote, maple syrup drizzle, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.

Sexy Ching mocktail (RM12) - soda with yuzu, garnished with lime, rosemary and cili padi.

  1. That croissant sandwich looks awesome. I see some Japanese and other influences on their menu, not entirely Australian. I guess this is more a fusion place.
