THIRTY8, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

THIRTY8 is the signature restaurant at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, and is well-known for its legendary weekend afternoon tea. Located on the second highest floor of the luxury hotel, the restaurant, bar and lounge boasts spectacular 360 degrees panoramic views of the KL city skyline, including a dramatic full frontal view of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

Other than afternoon tea, the restaurant also offers a fantastic a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, where guests can wine and dine to a selection of steaks, sustainable seafood, sushi, sashimi and Chinese cuisine while enjoying the stunning views. The venue is absolutely perfect for a gathering with your family or friends or for a romantic meal out with your loved one.

There are not many places in KL where you can enjoy this gorgeous, unobstructed view of the Petronas Twin Towers.

To start, we shared the wonderfully crisp Signature fried crab cakes served with tomato relish and remoulade sauce (RM98) and Baby C (the soup lover) had the Roasted wild mushroom soup with thyme croutons (RM48), which must have been very good as she finished the whole bowl herself and I didn't get a lick of it. :P

For mains, we had the Steamed giant tiger prawns with garlic, chilli and glass noodles (RM135) from the Chinese kitchen and it was remarkable. The prawns were huge and fresh, and the simple steaming method brings out the best of the fresh prawns, allowing the natural sweetness to shine.

For the meat lovers, THIRTY8 offers Australian 'Diamantina' Red Wagyu or Black Angus Beef from Stanbroke Farms. We had the rib eye (350g, marbling score 6 - RM350), which was thoughtfully sliced for sharing. Beautifully tender, melt-in-the-mouth and flavorful meat, we certainly enjoyed this and went straight to steak heaven. So so good! I'm also eyeing the Tomahawk for my next visit, very reasonably priced at RM350 for 900g.

End your meal on a sweet note with the dramatic THIRTY8 signature cake (RM60), which comes with theatrics and all. A chocolate mousse arrived in a dome, filled with cascading dry ice vapour. Salted caramel sauce is drizzled over the mousse, before we dug in and indulged in this rich dessert.

  1. Are those round balls crab cakes? They're usually flat, croquettes, aren't they?
