Mangiiare Dine & Bar, Bangsar: Ramadan Sets 2019

This Ramadan, Mangiiare Dine & Bar will be introducing three different Ramadan sets with an Italian touch to suit your buka puasa needs. Available from 6 May until 3 June 2019 (6.30pm - 8.30pm), the 3-course menus are priced from RM40++ onwards, and includes a starter, main, dessert and drink. (Quote "BabySumo" to receive 10% off your bill.)

Located in Bangsar, this new restaurant offers modern Italian cuisine on their menu, and the Ramadan sets are made up of some their signature as well as bestselling dishes. The restaurant has a lovely, casual ambiance, with Italian music playing in the background; we're certainly loving the vibes here.  Helming the kitchen here is Chef Mohd Nizam which has over 20 years culinary experience in restaurants around KL.

Set A - RM40++
Start your meal with the Classic Caesar salad, romaine lettuce tossed in a tangy anchovy dressing, with boiled egg, crispy turkey bacon, croutons, and shaved Parmesan. This is followed by the Linguine in creamy salted egg sauce with curry leaves, cili padi, crispy fried garlic and a whole deep fried crispy soft shell crab.  For dessert, we enjoyed a delicious Panna cotta topped with orange coulis. This set comes with a glass of Bandung with barley.

Set B - RM50++
A classic Italian dish, the Eggplant Parmigiana was beautifully executed here. Half an eggplant is topped with Parmesan, basil and tomato sauce and baked. For main course, this set comes with half a roasted spring chicken with buttered roasted potato, chilli broccoli and chicken au jus. An indulgent Black & White Chocolate Lava cake, served with vanilla ice cream ensures that you have the perfect end to your meal. This set comes with a glass of coconut-based fruit punch.

Set C - RM60++
To whet your appetite, a bowl of tangy, Spicy seafood soup, laden with ingredients such as sauteed black mussels, squid, tiger prawns and sea perch in a tomato and thyme broth. This is followed by a generous portion of Braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes, French beans and gremolata. The lamb is superbly tender and flavorful.. loved it! Finally, for dessert, Mangiiare's signature tiramisu is served - espresso soaked sponge fingers layered with mascarpone cream in a crispy tuile cup. This set comes with a refreshing dragon fruit smoothie.

Makan Nyonya, Estadia Melaka: Jom Makan Promotion

During our stay at Estadia Hotel, we also checked out their Jom Makan promotion at Makan Nyonya restaurant. The new promotion, available daily (Monday to Sunday) from 12pm until 10.30pm, features five different set meals for only RM16, and is inclusive of a glass of iced lemon tea.

Makan Nyonya, Estadia Melaka

The dishes which you can choose from are the Kam Heong Pasta, Ayam Percik Taliwang with Rice, Oriental Chicken Chop, Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken and Nyonya Curry Fish with Rice. We went for the first four dishes, since we've already tried their nyonya asam curry for dinner the night before. Out of these dishes, my personal favourite was the Ayam Percik Taliwang, which comes with a whole, juicy grilled chicken leg with the most amazing, flavorful percik sauce.  Spicy, savoury and sweet, all in one!

Ayam Percik Taliwang - highly recommended!

Knowhere Bangsar: Weekend Brunch in KL

If your idea of a great weekend revolves around good food and having a tipple or two, Knowhere Bangsar is the place to be. This fairly new pork-free restobar offers a great variety of fusion food and signature cocktails with a Malaysian touch and on weekends, they serve brunch from 11am to 4pm.

Leading us into the restaurant are mythical murals of keyholes all along one side of the wall, each illustrating a different dimension or place. Fairy lights hanging overhead on the ceiling adds a magical touch to the place - I can only imagine how pretty it looks at night, twinkling above the sleek bar.

Knowhere Bangsar

The new brunch menu features a mix of Malaysian dishes, big breakfasts, pasta, burgers and more. Furthermore, with a minimum spend of RM30 from their brunch menu, you will get free-flow Cranswick Lakefield Pink Moscato for an hour. Alternatively, you can also opt for bottomless non-alcoholic tropical punch. If this is not fantastic value, I don't know what is!

New on the brunch menu is the Nasi Ulam Ayam Bakar (RM32.80), a whole chicken leg rubbed with turmeric and lemongrass, grilled and served with Malaysian style rice salad and percik sauce. The chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful.. especially good eaten with the percik sauce.

Baby D, the pasta lover, chose the Crustacean Aglio Olio (RM30.80) which comes with three large tiger prawns and spaghetti coated in chili garlic oil. It must be good because he finished everything!

Baby C, on the other hand, ordered the 14 days dry aged striploin steak (RM65.80 for 220g) and we asked for it to be cooked medium rare. This came with herb au jus and roasted vegetables. As expected with dry aged meat, this had quite an intense, meaty flavour.

We also ordered the Krispy Burger (RM28.80), featuring a crispy battered boneless chicken leg with oozy Monterey Jack cheese sandwiched between two soft burger buns. It also comes with crispy potato wedges... a very nice, enjoyable burger!

Nizza, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara: New Menu 2019

Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s speciality French-Mediterranean restaurant, Nizza, has recently launched their new menu, showcasing a delicious array of high-quality dishes inspired by the South of Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. The new menu enhancements come as part of Executive Chef Kim Gate’s efforts to elevate the Food & Beverage offerings of the hotel.

Nizza’s new menu highlights include Salade de Nizza (arugula, cherry tomato, artichoke, fennel, avocado, manchego cheese, toasted almond argan oil and cider vinaigrette), Vivaneau Grenobloise (local red snapper pan fried, pomelo, grapefruit, lemon, gooseberries and caper berries), Longe d’agneau (lamb loin sous vide, fava breans, beetroot moutabel, heirloorn vegetables and thyme jus) – just to name a few. Seafood lovers will be pleased to see a huge variety of fresh seafood items; Plateau de fruits de mer (grilled lobster, prawns, king crab, red snapper, calamari, mussels and oysters), Sole Meunière (sole fish fillet meunière style, sautéed wild mushroom and garlic parsley cream) and more.

Nizza, Sofitel KL: new menu 2019

Beautiful restaurant space sets the mood for a fine dining experience
Nizza, Sofitel KL

Chef Kim offers his recommendations on some of the must-try dishes and we go with it. To start, we had the Burrata (RM55), Saint Jacques (RM68) and Cocotte de moules (RM75).

The burrata may seem like a simple dish, but done right, is an explosion of beautiful flavours in your mouth. The wonderfully creamy texture of the burrata cheese paired with the sweet, plump heirloom tomatoes and slow roasted cherry tomatoes, locally sourced from Cameron Highlands, just works wonders.

Delicious crusty focaccia, served with a basil dip to start the meal

I can never say no to scallops. The Saint Jacques features three plump, seared Canadian scallops with pistachio crust, served with sweetcorn, citrus foam and peppercorn caramel.

For the mussel lover, Baby D, we ordered the Cocotte de moules, steamed mussels with white wine and cream. How good was it? Well, the young man polished off 80% of the mussels (he was kind enough to leave some for us) and was so proud to show off all his empty shells to the waiter. Double thumbs up from him!

For mains, we shared the Longe d'agneau (RM125), lamb loin cooked sous vide with fava beans, beetroot moutabel, heirloom vegetables and thyme jus. Beautifully pink and tender.

The highlight of the meal was the Black Angus ribeye steak (RM155 for 300g), cooked in the Mibrasa charcoal fired grill. As you all know, I'm a huge fan of steaks and this is definitely one of the best steaks I've eaten in Kuala Lumpur. Beautifully presented on a wooden board, the flame-licked steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare doneness, with a lovely char and intense smokiness. LOVE it!

Served with four types of mustard to complement the meat

For desserts, we had the Fondant au Chocolat (RM42), a beautiful warm chocolate fondant made with Valrhona Caramelia, and served with amaretto cream and pistachio ice cream. The Creme brulee (RM38) was also excellent, with a rich vanilla bean flavour.

An excellent selection of fine French cheese (RM78) is also available.

In addition to the new menu, Nizza has also introduced a range of signature cocktails which are definitely worth trying. Earlier that evening, we sipped on the Luxe Tropicale (my fav!), Garden of Eden and Release the Kraken, all RM45, by the pool bar. We also had the Japanese Nikka Whisky Highball with Fever Tree soda water.

Current promotion - Japanese highball with Fever Tree soda

Mixologist Joel adding some finishing touches to the Luxe Tropicale

Luxe Tropicale - fresh passion fruit, pineapple juice reduction, fresh lime juice,vanilla liqueur and champagne.

Release the Kraken - Kraken spiced rum, lime wedges, mint leaves, caramel sugar, soda water

Garden of Eden - Hendricks Gin, brown sugar, hand pressed lemon juice, basil, elderflower liqueur, dash of champagne.
