CNY 2019 @ Ee Chinese Cuisine, Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Usher in the Year of the Pig with a sumptuous feast at Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur with families, friends and colleagues for a great start to the brand new year.

At Ee Chinese Cuisine, you will find flavoursome festive dishes that exquisitely blend traditional and modern flavours to cater for discerning guests. From 16th January until 19th February 2019, the restaurant offers seven different Festive Set Menus, with prices starting from RM2088 nett per table of 10 persons and RM788 nett per table of 4 persons (scroll down below for full menus).

Start your meal with Yee Sang, and toss to prosperity, good fortune and happiness. Diners can choose from toppings such as jellyfish, silver fish, salmon, abalone and live Australian lobster, priced from RM78 nett onwards. We had the Prosperous Salmon Yee Sang with rice crackers and strawberry sauce - a refreshing, auspicious start to our meal.

Prosperity Yee Sang with Abalone

Double-boiled deluxe shark's fin soup with fish maw and American ginseng, with top shell, dried scallop and black chicken - warming, nutritious goodness.

Fish is a must-have during CNY as it symbolises abundance. We feasted on the Steamed giant grouper (loong dan) with beancurd skin and cordyceps - amazingly fresh and meaty with beautiful gelatinous skin. Lightly steamed in superior soy sauce, the natural sweetness of the fish can truly be enjoyed.

During CNY, we often eat chicken as it symbolises joy and togetherness as a family. The Smoked sesame chicken was moist, juicy and had superbly crispy skin, achieved by air-drying, roasting, then finally bathed in hot oil to give the skin a golden brown hue. It is then smoked with a mixture of Pu Er tea, sugar and rice grains for about 10 minutes.

"Ha ha ha" all the way to the new year; the Chinese believe that prawns represent joy and laughter. The Baked river prawn with spicy homemade chilli and ginger sauce was absolutely delish.

The Braised Chinese cabbage with crabmeat and dried scallops is a classic Cantonese vegetable dish often serving during CNY.  The Chinese cabbage was braised until tender and was delicious with the silky, rich, umami-laden sauce, and is mighty auspicious too, as Chinese cabbage symbolises "100 types of prosperity".

The Fried rice with king prawn and homemade Shacha sauce was delicious too; savoury, slightly spicy and with plenty of wok hei that a good fried rice should possess.

We ended our meal with Double boiled hasma with osmanthus and red dates as well as a sweet duet of homemade nian gao and macadamia puffs (sou) with pineapple filling, with hints of orange peel and lotus paste.

  1. Oh dear! Christmas just over and here comes Chinese New Year. Not celebrating though owing to a bereavement in the family, not yet one year. May go away some place, KL perhaps.
