Miyabi Japanese Restaurant, Sheraton Petaling Jaya

Miyabi is the contemporary Japanese restaurant located within the luxurious Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel, serving authentic Japanese cuisine such as teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi. Dressed in natural wood, modern Japanese pottery and origami artworks, the spacious restaurant can seat up to 121 pax, with seatings in the main restaurant, private dining rooms as well as the sushi bar or teppanyaki counter, where you can watch the chefs skillfully prepare your dinner.

Helmed by Chef Dino Png, the restaurant offers a vast menu, ranging from affordable set lunches to a traditional full course Kaiseki meal. Diners can also leave it to the chef to create an omakase menu, just like we did.

To start, we had an assortment of signature appetizers, namely the Koebi Karaage (deep fried river shrimp), Watari Kani Unagi Harumaki (rice paper roll filled with soft shell crab tempura, Japanese eel, avocado, lettuce and cucumber, with sesame dressing) and Umi Budo (sea grapes with ponzu sauce).

Next, we had the Dobin Mushi, a light soup with seafood and mushrooms served in a teapot. Add a squeeze of lime before enjoying.

Sashimi is always the highlight of any Japanese meal for me. Luscious, thick slices of toro (fatty tuna belly), kanpachi and tai..incredibly fresh, what's not to love about this? As with most respectable Japanese restaurants, they get shipment twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) for their sashimi.

Look at that beautiful marbling on the toro!

Uni (sea urchin) is wrapped in seaweed and then coated in a light batter for our tempura course. This is also served with an assortment of vegetables such as crispy enoki mushroom and mild, sweet shishito (Japanese green peppers).

The showstopper for the evening is the Wagyu beef tenderloin and cod fish shioyaki, served on a sizzling, hot stone grill. The beef is tender and juicy while the fish was sweet and delicate. To finish off our meal, we were offered either the Inaniwa udon in a light broth or garlic fried rice and miso soup.

For the kids, Chef Dino kindly prepared a salmon sashimi platter for them as well as Miyabi Special Maki (RM80) which comes with breaded prawn, soft shell crab, Japanese eel and vegetables.

For dessert, the adults had the Green tea cheesecake with mixed fruits while the kids enjoyed a scoop of green tea ice cream with red bean paste.
