Restoran Dao Ma Qie 刀麻切, Cheras, KL: Traditional Homemade Pan Mee

Update July 2019: This shop has moved to Taman Taynton View, Cheras.

For pan mee fans, here's a shop in Cheras which you can check out if you're in the area. Located in Taman Bukit Anggerik, Restoran Dao Ma Qie 刀麻切 specialises in all types of pan mee, in various dry and soupy versions.

The restaurant is well-ventilated and is relatively cool even on a very hot afternoon. They have an English menu as well as photos of the food stuck on the walls, and the owner is also able to converse in English.

I had the pan mee soup, also known as mee hoon kueh (RM6.50). You can specify for the "pinched" noodles. The mee hoon kueh had a good texture and comes with two meatballs, minced pork, ikan bilis, wood ear fungus and sayur manis. I enjoyed this, a comforting meal. :)

Hubby had the chilli pan mee (RM8) which comes with minced pork, ikan bilis, wood ear fungus, spring onions, sayur manis, chilli flakes and a poached egg. Mix everything together before eating. It was pretty tasty though the chilli flakes were really mild, and didn't have that spicy kick.

An order of fried wantans (about a dozen - RM6.50) - nice and crispy.

Opening times: 8am to 3pm; 5pm to 9pm daily. Closed on Mondays.

Price: Total bill RM21.

  2. Not a fan of pan mee but will go for a good one once in a while for a change. I like it dry.
