Beauty in the Pot, SkyAvenue Genting Highlands: HotPot

With cooler climate guaranteed all year round, Genting Highlands is the ideal place to enjoy a hotpot meal. Located on the rooftop of the SkyAvenue lifestyle mall is Beauty in the Pot, where diners can enjoy this Asian favourite high in the clouds.

Since its inception in 2014 in Singapore, Beauty in The Pot has been winning over gourmands with its nourishing and exquisite broths, as well as a wide selection of fresh ingredients. Beauty in the Pot in Genting marks the debut of this brand in Malaysia; its largest outlet yet, spanning over 7400 square feet.

The 266-seater outlet boasts a pink princess theme interior design, inspired by the beautiful cherry blossoms that come every early spring. The restaurant’s flooring features white marble stippled with pink quartz, symbolising the cherry blossoms that fall on snow-clad land. From the entrance to the private rooms, the walls to the ceiling and even the charging points, everything is decked out in different shades of pink.

For larger groups or families, there are private rooms available here with individual pots. All the pots in the restaurant have been specially imported. There is an exhaust system surrounding each pot, so diners can enjoy the hotpot session in a well-ventilated environment. There is also a children's playground so the adults can enjoy the food while the kids enjoy their playtime.

Inspired by the culture of food for health, diners can now take the opportunity to enhance their good looks while indulging in quality hotpot fare. The menu features their own creation of nourishing soup bases, garnering them the accolade of "World's First Health & Beauty Hotpot in the Sky".

The new outlet serves six soup bases, including the Signature Beauty Collagen Broth (Scallop & Pork Bone Soup), Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup (Pork Bone Soup), Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth, Cooling Coconut Broth, Longevity Wild Mushroom Broth (Vegetarian) and Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth.

Here are the descriptions of the broths:
Signature Beauty Collagen Broth (Scallop & Pork Bone Soup): More than six hours goes into the making of this collagen-rich soup. Freshly prepared every day, the soup features shark's cartilage as the main ingredient.

Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup (Pork Bone Soup): Simmered for long hours, the pork bone broth is made with luxurious Chinese herbs including one whole ginseng, dang gui, dang shen, red dates, wolf berries and others to create a moreish soup with intense flavours. It is available in mild spicy, spicy and extra spicy options.

Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth: Fresh kampong chicken is simmered over low heat for at least two hours and mixed with an array of premium herbs such as Solomon's seal, codonopsis root, Chinese angelica root and many more. The herbal fragrance, as well as the aroma of the glutinous rice wine is intoxicating. The broth helps improve blood circulation and strengthens one's immunity.

Cooling Coconut Broth: The soup base comprises coconut flesh and a variety of fresh ingredients such as spare ribs, chicken, chicken's feet and snow fungus. The chefs adds the coconut water from fresh young coconuts into the soup base. Delicate on the tastebuds and soothing on the throat, this soup helps to nourish the lungs and improve the body's immune system.

For your hotpot experience here, you can choose to have either a single pot, twin pot or quart pot. We went for the quart pot, which allowed us to choose and try four different soup bases (prices start from RM10 each), namely the collagen broth, spicy nourishing soup, cooling coconut broth and wild mushroom broth. Customers can request for refills; superior stock is added to the Beauty Collagen Broth, Signature Spicy Nourishing Broth and Cooling Coconut Broth while clear soup is added to the Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth, to maintain the original flavours of the broths.

I loved the Cooling coconut broth best, as it is light, clear and sweet and is perfect for dipping your meat or seafood in as it doesn't overwhelm the natural flavours of the ingredients. Baby D's favorite was the earthy Wild mushroom broth while Baby C and Hubby's vote went for the rich collagen broth (similar to the ramen-type tonkotsu broth). So it's definitely a good idea to go for the quart pot option! :)

There is an impressive variety of premium hotpot ingredients, ranging from pork, beef, chicken, seafood to vegetables and noodles. Please note that the dining time for each table is limited to 1 1/2 hours. Ordering is via an iPad, so you can keep track of your orders as well as total bill.

Choose from Australian, US Angus or US Wagyu beef, as well as various cuts such as sliced beef, short ribs, beef cubes, tripe, stomach and ox's tongue. We went for the Sliced Australian beef (RM24) which is slightly marbled and thinly sliced, so it only takes a few seconds to cook. For those who prefer pork, there is Nagano, Spanish Iberico or regular pork to choose from. We had the Sliced pork belly (RM17.50).

We highly recommend the Sliced Toman fish (RM19) aka snakehead 生魚, fresh and thick slices of sweet tasting, firm fish. I enjoyed dipping this in the Spicy nourishing soup.

Baby D requested for the Hokkaido scallop (RM26), the half portion comes with three pieces which were reasonably large and plump. This is best cooked in one of the more delicate tasting soups such as the wild mushroom or coconut soup.

All the meatballs, meat paste and dumplings are handmade. We had the Soft Bone pork meat balls (RM12) which were juicy and tender as well as the Fish paste (RM19.80) which had a soft, tofu-like texture. You must also try the dumplings; we had the prawn dumpling (RM19) and they're really tasty with crunchy, juicy prawns.

There are also more than 20 condiments and sauces to dip the ingredients in. If you are unsure how to create your own sauce, there are several dip recipes above the counter to guide you. There is a mandatory charge of RM6.80 for all diners, to enjoy the condiments and unlimited servings of fresh fruits.

Once you have finished your meal, you will be served a complimentary, refreshing yuzu sorbet to refresh your palate. Overall, a very enjoyable meal with exceptional service (the staff are SOOOO polite) in a fitting location.

The lovely view from the rooftop (Level 5)
