Hotel Review: JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur (A Family Staycation)

"Welcome to the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur."

Sheer elegance and warm smiles welcomed us at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur during our recent weekend staycation. The new lobby is modern and sleek, dressed in cool grey Emperado marble that beautifully reflects the magnificent cut crystal chandelier of six linked sparkling rings.

Since 1997, the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur has been setting high standards for the hospitality industry in KL. 5 December 2017 marked a new chapter for this luxury hotel as it celebrated the official relaunch after a complete refurbishment. The level of finish is truly 5-star and the personal touch applied by the associates staffing the establishment reinforce the world-class feel within the property.

The luxury hotel boasts 578-contemporary rooms and suites, all which have been refreshed and thoughtfully designed using modern materials and polished chrome, matched by stylish and tech-friendly amenities. Nine brand new Cabana Poolside rooms on Level 6 have been added to the accommodation selection and is suited for guests looking to spend quality leisure time in the city.

We stayed in the Junior Suite while the kids were in the connecting Deluxe Room with twin beds. We fell in love immediately with the cosy, luxuriously appointed rooms - our home away from home for the weekend!

The Junior Suite is spacious and comes with a plush king-sized bed, a sofa bed as well as a separate living area and work desk with two flat screen LCD TVs. There is also a coffee machine, tea making facilities as well as complimentary high speed WiFi.

The bed is incredibly comfortable and the soundproofing is great, so a good night's sleep is guaranteed!

A sweet welcome from the hotel team

We were also well impressed by the the generously proportioned, gorgeous marble bathroom, which include a dressing table, vanity counter, Aromatherapy Associates toiletries, separate rainforest shower and toilet and a standalone bathtub for that well-deserved indulgent soak.

Similarly, the Deluxe Room is well-appointed with two good-sized twin beds, a LCD TV (for their cartoons) and a slightly more compact marble bathroom with a small dressing table, vanity counter, rainforest shower and a Japanese-inspired bathtub.

Staycations are all about relaxation, so a visit to the the rebranded Starhill Spa Village is a must. Set to ignite your senses through the power of scent, each signature aromatic oil has its own distinctive health benefits to help soothe your body and mind. Guests will be able to personalise their own experience by choosing their preferred aromatic oil (from a range of ten oils from the collection) and pair it with their choice of massage and enhancement for a delightful sensory journey.

The signature treatment here at Starhill Spa is the Deep Sleep, a 2-hour experience curated for those who suffer insomnia, experiencing jet lag or seeking to ensure a peaceful night's sleep. You can read about our full experience here.

The ultimate pampering session!

Other facilities at the spa include a 24-hour gym with comprehensive Technogym equipment, a steam room, sauna, whirlpool and a cool plunge pool.

Located on Level 6 of the hotel, the pool is open daily from 6.30am and is perfect for a swim or just lazing by the poolside.. The service here is superb - the staff would bring us towels, glasses of cold water and sliced apples to keep us hydrated.

Pooltime = fun times ahead!

The hotel’s signature restaurant Shanghai is the only Shanghainese hotel restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Helmed by Shanghai-born Chinese Executive Chef Wong Wing Yeuk, the restaurant's menu offers over 100 exquisite, classic Shanghainese dishes. The restaurant has also undergone a complete transformation and emerged with a touch of modern Chinese glamour.

One must try the famed xiao long bao here!

A new bar in the restaurant welcomes diners who desire a Shanghai-themed cocktail concocted right before them as a prelude to their Shanghainese culinary journey.

There is no shortage of good food when you stay at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur as the dining offerings extend into the connecting Feast Village at Starhill Gallery. Malay, Indian, Thai, Chinese and many more cuisines.... take your pick from one of 11 restaurants here.

Breakfast is served daily at Shook!, whereby a wide variety of local dishes such as nasi lemak, mee goreng mamak and roti canai as well as International fare such as Japanese dishes, egg counter, pancakes and more! Shook! also offers a Seafood Sunday Brunch, where you can indulge in fresh seafood such as lobsters and oysters along with a glass of bubbly and live jazz entertainment.

Afternoon tea at Newens Tea House - the scones and Maids of Honour tarts are fab!

Pak Tai is the newest outlet at Feast Village, and showcases fine southern Thai cuisine. We highly recommend the Tom Yum Goong, Crispy deep fried red snapper with turmeric and the Pad Thai!

Finally, one of our favorite restaurants here at Feast Village is Enak KL, for a distinctively Malay meal. We especially loved the keropok lekor, ikan bakar and the signature daging rusuk is to die for.

Exploring the vibrant city is easy and convenient, thanks to the hotel's prime location, right in the heart of Bukit Bintang. You can walk to the shopping malls or hop on the MRT (Bukit Bintang station)  if you want to venture further.

Whether you're into luxury brands or mid-range fashion, there will be something here to suit every budget. If you want to try some local hawker fare, you can also take a short walk to Jalan Alor or Lot 10 Hutong, for some street food that Malaysia is famous for.

We had an amazingly relaxing time, just chilling by the pool, pampered with a spa treatment and doing what foodies do best - enjoying the myriad of restaurants available at the the hotel as well as the adjoining Feast Village, Kuala Lumpur. Thanks to JW Marriott KL for having us!
