Capitol Cafe, Bukit Bintang, KL: Local Malaysian Delights

A couple of months ago, we stumbled upon Capitol Cafe in Bukit Bintang and made a mental note to return here for food one day. We returned with our kids for breakfast when we were in the area for a staycation recently.

Marble tables and old school tiles to give you that nostalgic feel

The menu showcases both Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine, including nasi lemak, nasi ayam penyet, chicken rice, Hainanese chicken chop, pan mee, curry mee and many more. For breakfast, one of the most popular items here is the Morning Set (RM7.90) which comes with roti bakar (aka kaya toast) and two half boiled kampung eggs as well as a choice of hot coffee or tea.  Both our kids wanted this so the parents got the drink that came with the set. The eggs very perfectly cooked and they were generous with the butter and kaya in the toast, so a big thumbs up from us!

Hubby ordered the signature Capitol Nasi Lemak (RM12.90) which took some time to arrive. It was worth the wait though, as the nasi lemak was fantastic. The rice was "lemak" and fragrant and the sambal was a good balance of spicy-sweet flavours. What stood out for us was the fried chicken, served piping hot with moist, juicy meat and crispy skin. I know where to come for my nasi lemak fix next time!

We also tried some of their kuih (kuih lapis and kuih talam - RM1 each) as well as yau char kwai and kap chung (fried dough with glutinous rice centre) (RM1.50 each) which were pretty decent. All in all, a good breakfast with a nice kopitiam vibe.

  1. Part of the hotel? Stayed there before but didn't eat anything there. I love the old-school marble top table and rattan chairs. Nice! I like my nasi lemak to be worthy of its name, truly lemak, rich with coconut milk.
