Different Taste Restaurant, Bercham, Ipoh

Last year, we had a delicious meal at Different Taste .. it was so memorable that we decided to revisit again when we were in Ipoh recently.

Surprisingly, the staff still remembered us from our visit last year. We ordered all the same dishes that we had last year and also added on salted egg yolk squid later (after we saw it on the menu).

First to arrive was the lala (RM22), served with chillis, lots of garlic, ginger and spring onions. Still as good as we remembered it! As always, Baby D demolished almost half the plate of the lala.

Baby C enjoyed the fishballs (RM12 for 8) most, so she ended up having four. The texture was really bouncy.. delicious!

What we came here for... the claypot crab with glass noodles (RM75 per crab). I was really looking forward to having this dish (would always reminisce about the meaty claw from last year) so imagine my disappointment when we peeled the crab claw and there wasn't much meat (it was a big claw but almost hollow inside).  For the price we were paying, it was definitely a letdown. I mentioned it to the staff and all they said was that they sometimes receive deliveries of not so good crabs. They reduced the price to RM60 for the dish, though I much rather have a nice meaty claw.

The salted egg yolk squid (RM22) made up for the crab dish. Deep fried til crispy perfection, we enjoyed this so much that we ended up ordering yet another plate.

  1. The restaurant specialty claypot crab glass noodles was a disappointment. We were there on 25 January 2022. This restaurant is in the suburb and recommended by a few foodies blog. Not worth the money at RM 119 per pot with 1 crab ( 160rm per kg) as there is hardly any meat in the crab and the crab meat was tasteless. The soup with the glass noodles was strong in peppery taste, it was so so and nothing to shout about. We ordered 4 prawns in a buttery sauce for 30rm which tasted ordinary. A salted egg fried squid at 25rm tasted good. Our bill total is 200 which includes a big bottle of beer, a small rice and a soya sauce choy sum. It is expensive but a disappointing meal
