Devi's Corner (Banana Leaf Rice) + VCR Bangsar (Coffee & Cakes)

After all these years, Devi's Corner is still one of our favorite places to go to for banana leaf rice. We especially like bringing our overseas friends here as the restaurant is air-conditioned.

Each banana leaf rice is RM8, and comes with three types of vegetables as well a lovely mango chutney as well as deep fried snake gourd, fried salted chilli and papadom. Then, you can choose from four types of curries - mutton, chicken, fish and crab - to go all over your rice. You can have one, two, three or all four! My favorite is definitely the crab curry; thick, spicy and delicious!

To go with your banana leaf rice meal, don't forget to order the mutton varuval (RM12) and fried sotong (RM15). As always, the mutton chunks were tender and flavorful, and happy to note that the fried sotong was excellent this time as well with a light, crispy batter.

*Price update (1/1/2020): RM8.50 for BLR, RM9.50 for BLR with indian rice, RM15 for mutton varuval, RM15 for chicken 65.

After lunch, we headed over to VCR Bangsar for coffee and tarts. I enjoyed the lemon tart (RM12) - nice, lovely tart base and zesty filling. The boys enjoyed their flat white (RM12). The coffee is good but the place was exceptionally busy, so the noise levels got pretty high and it was hard to enjoy a conversation here.

Opening times: 8.30am - 11.00pm.

Location: VCR, 31, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.
