Start your dinner with an array of seafood on ice such as Hokkaido crab, slipper lobster, crayfish, freshwater prawns, prawns, flower crab, bamboo clams, mussels and clams. There is also an assortment of sushi and sashimi to choose from; BabySumoKids went straight for the salmon sashimi and salmon rolls. There are also freshly shucked oysters as well as a salad bar with salmon gravlax, cold cuts and ham.
The highlight of this new promotion is the multitude of fresh, raw seafood on display; select your seafood, place them in a bucket, choose your preferred sauce and hand your bucketload of seafood over to the chef to cook.
There are five sauces to choose from - Sichuan chilli sauce, sambal sauce, curry cheese sauce, rendang sauce and Thai coriander lime garlic sauce. My favorite was the latter, which I felt went very well with the seafood and had a zesty, spicy zing to it. Cooking time is approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on how busy they are... once it's ready, the server will bring it to your table and pour the seafood onto the large metal tray on your table. Then it's time to dig in! They provide plastic aprons and gloves for you to wear as it can get quite messy!
Seafood galore - I loved the large prawns, scallops, slipper lobster and crayfish in particular.
Kids had fun picking seafood for us
All ready for our seafood feast!
Round 1 - Curry cheese sauce - this was pretty good too
Round 2 - Thai coriander lime garlic sauce - best pairing with the seafood IMHO
Round 3 - Sichuan chilli sauce
In the meantime, while waiting for your seafood to be cooked, there are also lots of seafood and non-seafood dishes on the buffet spread which you can indulge in. One of the standout dishes was the mud crab, which is served in a curry butter sauce, along with some mantao. We ended up going back for more mantao as the sauce was crazy delicious.
Mud crabs
Wok fried green mussels with black bean sauce
Broccoli with sliced abalone, scallops and oyster sauce - Baby D enjoyed the scallops
Grilled fish
Seafood paella
Steamed red snapper
Kam heong la la
Prime rib roast beef
BBQ lamb rack
For desserts, do try the refreshing Lemon Aiyu Jelly, or the creamy Teppanyaki coconut ice cream. We also loved the soft crepe with creamed corn and peanuts, inspired by apam balik. Kids also enjoyed the chocolate fountains and cheese selection.
Verdict: A fantastic seafood buffet that is extremely good value for money.
