Bello Italian Restaurant, Pavilion KL: Wood-fired pizza and Italian delights

*September 2018: This restaurant has closed down.

Great pizzas make the world go round. At Bello, a new Italian restaurant in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, you can find authentic, wood-fired pizzas and other Italian delicacies. The kitchen is led by Italian Executive Chef, Federico Michieletto who has over 20 years of culinary experience.

Bello offers 12 types of wood-fired pizzas; we had the Pizza Hawaii (normal crust - RM18 for medium) and Pizza Seafood (thin crust - RM25 for medium). A medium pizza here is the equivalent of a personal pizza.

Bello's pizza base is made using natural mother yeast that requires 24 hours proofing time. The pizzas are then cooked in the wood-fired oven, resulting in flavorful pizzas with a golden crust. We thoroughly enjoyed the sourdough pizza bases here as they're delicious and light. If you are unsure which type of crust to go for, we recommend the normal crust.

Pizza Hawaii - mozzarella, tomatoes, pineapple and chicken cubes. A favorite with kids!

Pizza Seafood - prawns, mussels, crabmeat, mozzarella and tomato sauce.

Burrata Caprese (RM38) - Apuglia burrata with Japanese tomatoes, olives, sea salt and extra virgin olive oil

Other than pizzas, Bello also offers appetizers, soup, salad, specialty pasta, fresh pasta, risotto, mains and desserts. The Squid Ink Risotto (RM35) was another highlight for us; flavorful and al dente, the carnaroli rice was cooked in clam stock and squid ink. This black beauty was topped with fresh squid, cubed tomatoes, parsley, olive oil and peppers.

The Fresh Pastas, ranging from lasagna, pappardelle, fettucine and ravioli are made in-house daily. We tried the signature Ravioli Meremma (RM35), giant raviolis filled with ricotta spinach, revealing a runny egg yolk when you cut through it.

The Vongole (RM28) which features spaghetti, clams, baby tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and parsley was decent.

BabySumoKids polished off the Valrhona Chocolate Cake (RM28), served with vanilla gelato and fresh berries, within minutes. Made using 70% Valrhona chocolate, this dessert was wonderfully rich, decadent and delicious!

For those who prefer a classic Italian dessert, go for the Tiramisu (RM17) served with fresh fruits. There is an option to add Marsala wine to your tiramisu too (RM28).

Set Lunch for RM21.90+

Verdict: Come for the wood-fired pizzas and risotto, and end your meal with the decadent Valrhona chocolate cake.

  1. I guess the risotto is gluten-free but personally, I am not all that fond of that.
