Good France 2018 (Goût de France) at NOOK, Aloft KL - A Celebration of French Gastronomy in Malaysia

Join the World's Greatest French Dinner, Good France on 21st March 2018, a culinary event orchestrated by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Chef Alain Ducasse. On this day, over 3,000 restaurants in 150 countries across five continents will be serving a special menu in a celebration of French gastronomy.

Good France, also known as Goût de France, showcases French cuisine made with fresh, seasonal produce from France’s various regions.  Chefs from all over the world will cook dinner to pay tribute to the excellence of French cuisine and its ability to innovate and unite people around the common values of sharing.

In conjunction with Good France, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral will be amongst the 18 restaurants participating in Malaysia. The hotel's Executive Chef, Arfizan Abdul Rahim has specially crafted a 4-course French menu which will be served from 19 to 23 March at Nook.

With his menu, Chef Arfizan hopes to pay homage to classic French cooking, albeit with a modern twist. The menu certainly impressed, with exquisite French dishes served from start to finish.

We got off to a flying start with the Foie gras torchon with mango gel, fig marmalade and brioche. Rich and smooth, the torchon was excellently paired with the sweet fig marmalade and crisp brioche topped with caramelised onions. So good! Definitely one of the best foie gras dishes I've had in KL.

Instead of a thick, heavy cream-based tomato soup, Chef Arfizan surprises with a light Tomato Consomme with terrine of tomato and crispy tuile. The consomme is served in a teapot, which you pour over the translucent truffle jelly filled with tomato salsa. Not only did it look pretty, the soup was flavorful and tasty and didn't leave us feeling overly full.

Beef bourguignon is a classic French meat stew, usually simmered with red wine. As Nook is certified Halal, Chef Arfizan omitted the wine, and still managed to serve us a delicious deconstructed version. The beef is shredded (it reminded us a little of beef rendang) and served with saffron boulangere potatoes, baby vegetables and demi-glace. The presentation is modern, yet it still exhibits the homely, comforting taste.

Our meal ended with a slice of Galette des Rois, a traditional French cake made from puff pastry with almond filling. Definitely a tart fit for a king, with its golden, flaky pastry and delicious filling. Served with some fresh berries and cream.

The 4-course Goût de France menu at Nook is priced at RM180 nett and will be served in Nook's Private Dining Room. Reservations recommended. For more information or reservations, please call 03-2723 1188 or visit www.aloftkualalumpursentral.com
