Sushi SHOYA + The "Famous" Cheesecake, Isetan The Japan Store, KL

What did you get up to on New Year's Day?

Our day started bright and early as the kids wanted to go there to the park for a morning workout. Then, they wanted to take the MRT into town. We got off at Bukit Bintang station and walked over to Isetan the Japan Store in Lot 10 to have a late lunch (and celebrate Hubby's birthday!).

Our lunch venue was Sushi Shoya (our favorite place here at LG Floor) as I wanted to have the bara chirashi. Unfortunately I was told that they have sold out for the day (it was 4pm) so I was a little sad (then I got a little miffed as I saw them making a fresh batch of bara chirashi at 4.30pm).

After browsing their menu, I saw their Specials menu and one of the items on there was a Mixed Nigiri Sushi (RM35) which looked promising. I ordered that, along with a Salmon Zanmai Set (RM40.50) for Baby D, Special Salmon Don (RM38) for Hubby and cucumber mini rolls (RM5 for 6 pieces) for Baby C.

The Mixed Nigiri Set came with 8 pieces of sushi, with toppings such as salmon, tuna, yellowtail, tamago, tobiko and scallop. Everything was fresh and delicious, and I especially enjoyed the salmon and yellowtail. A very nice change from my regular bara chirashi.

The Salmon Zanmai set comes with 12 pieces of sushi, featuring salmon sashimi and torched salmon, salmon ikura. That's quite a lot of sushi, right? So do you think Baby D finished it all by himself or did he need help?

Surprise, surprise, he finished it all by himself (he swapped some salmon mini rolls with his sister cos she wanted to try) and later on, we ordered something else for his sister and he stole another two pieces from her plate. Just a little over a year ago, we were here and ordered the same set and he still needed help finishing it... how his appetite has grown!

Hubby joked,"always hungry, must be the genes."

Hubby enjoyed his Special Salmon Don as always, thick slices of sashimi and torched salmon and salmon roe (ikura). All the above three sets come with miso soup.

Baby C had the cucumber mini rolls and then later on, we added on an extra plate of salmon mini rolls (RM8 for 6) as she likes those. So glad both my kids love Japanese food just like mummy! Yay to more Japanese meals together!

What's a birthday celebration without some cake.... The Tokyo Restaurant's famous cheesecake (RM17) can also be found on LG floor - they have a small kiosk here and the cakes are nicely packaged for takeaway, along with a tub of cream. We've tried it a couple of times so far and we are hooked! Love it, so creamy and rich.

From another visit with our friend in December 2017 - I had the bara chirashi (RM26.50), our friend had the Salmon and Salmon Ten-Don (RM 35) and Hubby had his usual Special Salmon Don (RM38).
