CNY 2018: Luk Yu Tea House, Feast Village KL

Usher in the Year of the Dog in the charming Luk Yu Tea House in Feast Village, Starhill Gallery with a well-crafted pork-free menu with family, friends and colleagues.

Keeping it simple, Luk Yu will be offering yee sang and a nine-course Chinese New Year set menu (priced at RM888 nett for 10 persons), available from 1 February until 2 March 2018.

Toss to a prosperous and auspicious year with Luk Yu’s variety of Yee Sang complemented by toppings such as salmon, abalone, jellyfish or vegetarian. The CNY Set Menu starts with the Prosperity Salmon Yee Sang. I like that they still recite all the "auspicious" wishes as they add the final touches to the yee sang before the toss. I hope this tradition continues for a very long time. :)

Next on the menu is the Braised superior soup with dried scallops, seafood and crab meat. I love these thick Chinese soups full of seafood goodness, which are perfect with a touch of vinegar.

A whole chicken served during Chinese New Year symbolises prosperity and togetherness of the family. Just as the name suggests, the Hong Kong-style roasted crispy sesame chicken had a lovely, crispy skin and moist, juicy meat.

Fish is a must-have during the Chinese New Year  period, as its homonym means abundance for the new year. The sea grouper lightly steamed with soy sauce and with crispy dried radish and garlic, had a wonderful, firm texture.

The prawns are peeled (yay for easier consumption), battered and then wok fried with chef's signature sauce and topped on crispy noodles. The sauce is a delicious combination of sweet, sour and spicy flavours. Eat more prawns and ha-ha-ha (laugh your way) into the Year of the Dog.

For the vegetable course, the braised dried scallops, Pacific clams and mushrooms in superior oyster sauce are served with broccoli florets.

These sticky parcels of Steamed glutinous rice with oysters and salted egg yolk were absolutely delectable and full of flavour.

For dessert, we had the refreshing Chilled lemonade longan with sea coconut and crispy Chinese New Year cake (nian gao) balls with a yummy sweet potato coating.
