Family Dinner @ Lai Ching Yuen, Grand Millennium KL

Last weekend, we were invited over to Lai Ching Yuen at Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur for dinner. The ambiance is cosy yet regal, and paired with attentive service, it is a fantastic place for a family dinner.

The menu focuses on refined Cantonese cuisine, ranging from barbecued meats, premium dried seafood, live seafood and crustacean and more.

To start, we had Lai Ching Yuen's roasted meat platter (RM98 for small); we were told that we can choose two types from a selection of roasted crispy pork (siew yuk), Hong Kong style roasted duck or BBQ roasted pork with honey (char siew), so went for the latter two.

Not only do they look great, both meats were absolutely delicious too. The duck certainly possessed all the qualities of a good roasted duck -  glistening, crispy skin and moist, juicy meat, served with a sweet plum sauce. The kids loved the char siew, so that disappeared from the plate rather quickly.

The Stewed Tofu with Preserved Choy Sum and Minced Pork (RM38) was recommended to us by the wait staff. A homely, comforting dish, best enjoyed with white rice.

A popular dish on the previous menu, diners can still request for this Stir fried fish fillet and scallop with XO sauce (RM68). The seafood and broccoli are coated in a delicious, mildly spicy XO sauce.

Our favourite dish of the evening was Lai Ching Yuen's special fried crispy noodles (RM48). Crispy noodles topped with a thick, delicious gravy with plump, juicy prawns, squid, chicken and vegetables, we loved it.

We had two of their bestselling desserts, the Chilled mango puree with sago and pomelo topped with vanilla ice cream (RM14) and Lai Ching Yuen's signature chilled durian pancake (RM18). The mango puree was lusciously creamy, so good that BabySumoKids (literally) licked their plates clean.
