Weekend Brunch @ Sapore, Persiaran Ampang, KL

Sapore, which means "flavour" in Italian is a restaurant serving authentic Italian and Spanish-Mediterranean cuisine. Located in Ampang, the restaurant is helmed by Chef Fabio Ruggiero, who originates from Bari in Italy.

Every weekend, the restaurant will be offering brunch from 10am to 3pm - perfect for those who enjoy having a long lie in on weekends. You will be able to find Breakfast sets, omelettes, eggs benedict, French toast, muesli, Croque Monsieur, and more on their menu.

We sampled several of their Breakfast Sets, starting with the Donkey Breakfast (RM22). Diners get a choice of 2 fried eggs or scrambled eggs, roasted bacon (the real deal!), baked beans and toasted bread. A well-prepared, satisfying breakfast.

For a more substantial breakfast, you can opt for the Sunrise Breakfast (RM24) which comes with 3 organic eggs (scrambled or fried), served with roasted tomatoes, baked beans, roasted potato, mushrooms, toasted bread and a choice of bacon, pork sausage or chicken sausage.

Our favorite is the Solferino Breakfast (RM45) which comes with a selection of delicious cold cuts such as Spanish salsichon, parma ham, and mortadella, as well as manchego cheese, gherkins, honey and toasted bread. Don't forget to order a glass of their Sangria red wine (RM28) for the perfect breakfast experience.

Another must-try here is the Eggs Benedict, served with smoked salmon (RM28). Two beautiful poached eggs are served with toasted bread, lemon butter, roasted potatoes and fresh greens.

Are you a fan of truffle fries? If the answer is YES, then you definitely have to try them here at Sapore. Though it looks unassuming, trust me when I say this is the BEST truffle fries you will get in KL. The french fries (RM26) were nice and crisp, topped with Parmesan and served with a truffle mayo. So simple yet so so good!  A great snack, while you sip on your wine and enjoy a lazy afternoon. ;)

On weekends, the lunch items are served from 12pm onwards.. you will find several pasta dishes, including this Rigatoni Rosticciana (RM38), tube pasta with stewed Iberico pork ribs in tomato sauce. Chef tells us that he prefers using Iberico pork as the flavour is much better. They were braised until tender, and falling off the bone.

Chef also kindly brought out two more cold cuts for us to try - lardo and finocchiona. Lardo (RM25) is a flavoured Tuscany pork lard - super smooth and tastes buttery- and Sapore is the only place in KL that serves it. The ultimate indulgence.

Finocchiona, on the other hand, is salami with fennel, also from Tuscany.

An Italian meal is not complete without some tiramisu (RM20) for dessert. I rarely rave about the tiramisu we find in KL but this was awesome. The tiramisu here is made with Kahlua for that special kick.
