Tatsu Japanese Buffet @ InterContinental KL

There is nothing that I love indulging in more than Japanese food. For Japanese food lovers, Tatsu Japanese Cuisine in InterContinental KL is offering a Japanese Buffet Dinner every Saturday from now until 26 November 2016.

Priced at RM118 nett per adult, you will find over 75 a la carte and buffet items here, including freshly flown-in seafood, sashimi, sushi, tempura to rib eye beef teppanyaki. Most of the items are on the buffet spread (ie sashimi, sushi, appetizers, hot items, noodles, teppanyaki, miso soup, chawanmushi and desserts) and are regularly replenished by the chefs. On every table, there will be an order sheet with 8 items, which you can order from the waiting staff and it will be cooked to order.

Obviously we started our evening with some sashimi :) The chefs kindly plated this up nicely for me to take photographs. At Tatsu's buffet, three types of sashimi are offered - salmon, tuna and butterfish. The sashimi were thickly sliced and fresh, with my favorite being the salmon and Hubby's the butterfish.

Fatty salmon sashimi - I like!

This gets replenished regularly

The sashimi, sushi, salads and appetizers are arranged nicely at the sushi counter.

Lots of different appetizers to try

I love the chuka idako, chuka wakame, and chuka hotate. Kept going back for more!

Oh and the onsen egg is really good too!

Salads and sushi

Over at the hot food section, you will find oden (assorted fishcake in dashi), chikuzen, Japanese chicken curry, mapo tofu, as well as an assortment of fried items such as tori katsu (chicken cutlet) and satsuma age (fried fish cake). You can also find chawanmushi and miso soup here.

Not to be missed is the teppanyaki counter. Select your preferred items from the seafood boat (there is salmon, squid, butterfish, vegetables and rib eye beef) and hand it over to the chef, and he will cook it for you. Great fun watching all the action too! We had a few rounds of the rib eye beef, which was very nicely cooked (to medium) and tender.

Right next to the teppanyaki counter, you will find hot / cold soba or udon.

Cold soba for me

As mentioned earlier, you may order from the a la carte buffet menu as well - diners can only place a maximum of two orders each time, to prevent food wastage. You can reorder once you have finished your serving.

Two types of rolls to choose from  - ebi tempura or California roll. We went for the latter.

We had the tempura moriawase, which came with two prawns and assorted vegetables. Nice and crispy, we went back for seconds! There is also kaki furai (deep fried oyster).

We almost didn't order this saba shioyaki (mackarel) but I'm glad we did. Very tasty. The portion is not too big, so you can also try the chicken teriyaki and sawara teriyaki (Spanish mackarel). They also offer chicken sukiyaki (hotpot) but we were way too stuffed to try it this time.

Desserts are displayed at the bar area. You can find ice cream, mochi, cakes and fresh fruits here. I had the green tea ice cream and mochi, which were very nice. We also had some cakes and green tea tiramisu.

Thanks to InterContinental KL for having us :)
