The Walking Menu @ Di Atas Sungei, Tanjong Jara Resort

I still remember our first time dining at Di Atas Sungei, when we visited Tanjong Jara Resort in 2008. It was particularly memorable, as it was our first time encountering the "walking menu". Plus the food was really good too.

This time, we are back at Di Atas Sungei with our little ones. Di Atas Sungei is Malay for 'Above the River' as the restaurant literally sits above a river that flows into the South China Sea.

At Di Atas Sungei, you will find perfectly executed authentic Malaysian cuisine and the unique “walking menu” at dinner time, whereby Chef Ann will personally come to each table and offer recommendations tailored to your needs and preferences, based on the daily fresh produce available.

Chef Ann's first recommendation was the fish fillet - "there's no bones and it's easy for the kids to eat". How very thoughtful of her. We had the red snapper fillet, steamed with soy sauce. Simple, fresh and good!

We also had the scallops, which she recommended to be simply grilled with salt, pepper and lemon as they're very fresh. It comes with a sambal dipping sauce. A portion came with about 8 scallops, and the scallop monsters aka BabySumoKids immediately polished it off, leaving only one each for us parents.

A must-have here at Di Atas Sungei is their signature buttermilk prawns. The large, plump prawns are deep fried, then coated in a delectable buttermilk sauce. So so good!

Another signature dish here is the roselle chicken. The roselle flower gives this dish a tangy flavour, hence making this similar tasting to sweet and sour chicken dish.

We also had the Mee Mamak, Malay-style yellow noodles stir fried with dark soy sauce. Again, it was a well-executed dish... delish!

Some stir fried kailan

For desserts, we shared the chocolate lava cake and banana fritters with vanilla ice cream. We were happy that the chocolate lava cake came with a lava centre and it was beautifully rich dessert. Hot deep fried bananas and cold ice cream is a real treat as well!
